In Europe the U20 is a small time event while the Seniors are huge on tv.

Point. In the Czech Republic or Slovakia Seniors are huuuuuge. The most watched games averaged around 1,5 million viewers in the Czech Republic. TV companies pay lots of money for it. U20 is niche, only for core fans.

Now Canada is out I wonder how full the gold medal game will be?

Probably cheaper, but I still imagine it'll be sold out or near close to it. Attendance has been good, if not great for the round robin, I see no reason why it can't sell out for the gold medal game

the semi final game at 5pm and gold medal game prices dropped by almost 80% on the resale market.. lets hope its russia and USA for the semi final game at 5pm..

Barely 17k for Canada-Finland. Why was the game at 15h30? That's 1500 tickets left?
And only 11k for Russia last night. It's decent numbers but ticket prices are still way to high. And the dumb ticket packages are even more to blame.

So why is the tournament not doing better? Any word from locals?

Never understand why the Canada game was at 330pm locally on a weekday. When most people are at work. I know they want to accommodate the eastern viewers. Also why the Russia and USA game is at 1pm on Friday when they can do it at 5pm.

They could have changed it anyway like it's done in lots of places in those cases. They had 2 days between games...

It's doing well. I'm local and no way I'm paying $150+ or whatever it was for the worst seats in the house when I can watch comfortably on my couch. And 11k for a Russia-Slovakia game in Canada is pretty darn good as far as I'm concerned. Last year the Americans played at home in front of a mostly empty arena against Sweden in the semi-final.

Ummm... you realize 17,000 fans at a junior game is freakin’ phenomenal, right?

He's just being a troll about it.

Nobody is going to switch start times because Canada fans cries about it, along with the fact they would've needed the consent of the other teams to do it.

The work argument is rather week since many offices are only restarting for the New Year and the kids are still out of school.

Is there any precedent for doing that? I'm sure the other teams in the tournament wouldn't agree.

As I pointed out above, you would need the consent of all teams involved.

This happened during the 1980 Olympics when the US wanted a later time in hopes of getting a better viewing audience. Thankfully, the Soviets refused in that instance.

I also remember the 1996 World Cup. The US beat Canada in the round robin to finish in first place. As a result they played their semifinal game against Russia in Ottawa and Canada played theirs against Sweden in Philadelphia because the seatings for the semifinals were already made according to the round robin placement.
