An out of nowhere big goalie acquisition (don't ask me how), and a different mindset surrounding this team which comes from Shanny. Change the narrative to losing is not acceptable here. No pat on the backs for regular season success. Keefe should be nervous instead of comfy

If you're a contending team, sports has no distinction for failures or success.

You either win or you don't. It doesn't matter when you lose of if you lose. I'd rather judge the team on how they loss rather than when.

Yup. I watched every game I could even through the Ballard era. It would be a lot more enjoyable to watch if we didn't have all these playoff failures to live with, but I imagine I'll always be "on board" no matter what.

Being a Leaf fan for me is like Hotel California or the nWo! The current state of this team/franchise doesn't exactly conjure up the great memories of past trips to the Conference Finals. Thankfully, it isn't reminiscent of the years of missed playoff berths either.

IMO, If you’re off board because of any season the Leafs have had since Auston arrived… you were never a fan to begin with.

Never left. Our boys did just fine against the future Champs. We'll get them next year. We showed a ton of character this year and I love the group even more. We'll be starting the Matthews 70 goal watch soon . I'm not sure why but this loss doesn't hurt as much.

Why are some fans (including myself) really frustrated and angry?
First, it should be noted that we are not ticked about just this playoffs. It is a compounding effect. What is this?

• 6 straight years of 1st round exits
• First 2 to 3 years we dealt with it as players were still learning. They had been just drafted so it was understandable
• Next 2 to 3 years
  • Expectation:
    • Good team building and cap allocation
    • Insulating stars with quality depth; because in playoffs quality depth all of a sudden becomes as important. Playoffs usually there is no time and space; so either stars show up or get help with quality depth
      • Stars when they show up opposition stars will too - this is where either our stars play their stars to a stalemate (same goals or no goals) and quality depth brings it home
      • We don't have cap left for quality depth
  • Series against Tampa
    • We had ZERO reasons to not show up to play in Game 2 and Game 4 and third period of Game 6
    • How can you not show up knowing full well that you haven't gotten out of the first round? How can you be this complacent? HOW?
      • No the answer that Tampa didn't show up to play in Game 1 and Game 3 is not an acceptable answer. What Tampa does is up to Tampa; their lazy ass attitude should not lead to lazy ass attitude for the Leafs
      • More importantly, Tampa has 2 cups and Cooper has prior cup runs to show as history. WTF do Leafs have to be this complacent? WHAT?

Where we believe things actually began to go wrong?

Again not an isolated one year incident. Its been building for a while....

• When Dubas handed out those ridiculous contracts and did not get term to extend the window while controlling stars' cap so that in future you could still insulate stars with quality depth as the stars will not require raises as early as they are now.
  • 8 year terms would have given 3 more years extending the window
• Not only do we not have quality depth pieces but we also do not have #1G and true #1D
• Our PP/special teams has been a JOKE and there are no changes on executions in the playoffs (don't give a F about regular season)
  • We still do not have a point shot on the #1PP. Seriously how DUMB is that.
• Matthews and Nylander's UFA period is coming ever closer and we have nothing but 1st round exits to show for it
• Dubas has traded/thrown away assets (picks/prospects) and we again have nothing to show for it
• Dubas came into a situation as a GM with a team that had plenty of cap space, assets, picks, prospects
  • In just two years he flushed everything down the toilet
  • he played mind games with babcock with sparks, and stupid d-core, getting malgins and petans that was another year wasted by dubas
    • Am not a babcock supporter but that was clear sabotage at the expense of team results and fans IMO
• Keefe
  • Keefe was completely outcoached by Torts in the CBJ series
  • Keefe was again outcoached by a nobody against the habs
  • Keefe then again was taken to cleaners against Cooper
  • Keefe did not break up matthews-marner against habs to get a different look
  • Keefe again did not break up matthews-marner against tampa to get a different look
  • He did not find enough ice time 5 on 5 for Nylander when he was the one that had even strength mojo going
  • Our breakouts are a JOKE;
  • We have zero executions on powerplays in the playoffs
  • We cannot play against clogged neutral zone, play perimeter hockey and remain status quo
  • Hell we allow easy entries to opposition
  • Keefe could close the series against the habs up 3-1
  • Keefe could not close the series against tampa up 3-2 in the third period in Game 6
    • we only managed 4 shots on goal. Yes this is not a typo. It was quite Pathetic!
  • Keefe to put a nobody like "Simmons" in his place kept playing Holl
    • Holl: Game 6 look at what this pylon is doing on ice when point scored the OT goal
    • Game 7: how many times did he give up possession of the puck?
    • Are you saying we couldn't have used Liljegren and his offense or puck movement skills?
    • Lily plays body, Holl a waste of that long frame does not take body at all. I mean WTF?
    • Good stuff Keefe. You put steve simmons in his place except your boy toy cost Game 6 OT goal against FYI
• Dubas+Keefe
  • In three years we have become a JOKE in the league
    • Losing to an AHL zamboni driver
    • Having montreal colours shine bright on a Toronto landmark (CN Tower)
    • Respect in the handshake line is another gem added to the get disgraced meter
    • Have bled assets with nothing to show except 1st round exits

Why does it look that we are angry just now?
We are not "angry" just now. Our disgust has just reached a new level after this season. It is a combination of being complacent in Game 2, Game 4, 3rd period of Game 6, stars once again now showing up for Game 7; the respect BS by Keefe and more importantly the the exit interviews especially by Keefe, Dubas and Shanahan

• Keefe not even once acknowledged that he did not have team prepared to play in Game2, Game4 and 3rd period of Game 6
• Shanahan and Dubas kept talking at the press conference like they just lost in Game 7 of a conference finals or SCF
  • "We are close" ->WTF! Close to what exactly asshats. Getting out of 1st round?
• The claim that these players showed some compete against Tampa is a cause for celebration?
  • WHAT IN THE ACTUAL CRAP?
    • These are professionals! They are supposed to show compete. If they are not going to compete wtf are they doing at this level?
    • Going ga-ga over players competing somehow is seen as some kind of progress? really?
• Dubas fans fighting tooth and nail against the betterment of Leafs as long as Dubas keeps the job has fuelled even more anger in the fans that just want Leafs to do well and succeed with or without dubas it does not matter!
  • But we also know with dubas it is not going to happen!
  • We don't trust him
  • We don't think he has any hockey foresight, or hockey brain
  • He doesn't know how to put a competitive hockey team together in a cap world.

Bottom Line
There has been nothing but significant incompetence from upper management. Seeing the same incompetence return once again, it just makes us even more angry.

Running it back with the same think tank that has put on this shit show for 4 years of president + GM and 3 years of this coach is going to lead to competent results?

Newsflash: Incompetence breeds incompetence!

• What should have been a beginning to something special and meaningful just seems lost forever. A complete waste! What should have been a successful rebuild with steady progress year after year has yielded nothing but:
  • Screwed up cap space
  • Core pieces to be UFAs potentially without even getting out of 1st round
  • 1st round exits for 6 years in a row
  • Heartbreaks
  • Significant incompetence from the GM.
  • The loser culture allowed to foster by the president, gm and coach
  • Easily satisfied, smug and content with failures
  • Frustration and Anger!

I could write a book for how bad this management regime has been, players coddled and what a waste of a wonderful opportunity it has been under the tutelage of shanahan and dubas.

Honestly, I will probably watch as much as I have for the last 60+ years: as much as possible.

However, I will be happiest if they drop Tavares to the third line (preferably on the wing) and move Nylander to 2C.

I think I'll take a break this year. Life has been really busy lately. Will probably still hang out here though.

As for "getting on board" again... I just want to see some results of success across the board in the playoffs. Better coaching, better goaltending, better powerplay, better clutch goals.

I actually think there is some good potential for them to make some significant moves this year, so I'm curious what the roster will look like come training camp.
