At what point*.. Seriously was it that hard of a connection to follow haha. Ferences politics good (and yes i don't have problem planting treees) and is talked about at great lengths.. thomas.. ******* for having a belief and not going to the white house. Makes sense.

Please remind me when Ference wrote something on Facebook for millions to see, got asked about it by the media, and then got pissy and claimed it was his private feelings? Or when he not-retired, and then pimped his business partner in the same message?

There's a very telling thematic difference between the two: TT comes across as being focused on himself. His beliefs, his actions or in actions, etc. Ference, as misguided as you may think he is, is about trying to make the world a better place. At worst, he's preachy.

Now, like I said back during the White House snub, TT had the right not to show. That said, it showed, to me, a bit of cowardice and no attempt to be a man and stand with the team you bled and suffered and triumphed with, to say nothing about using it as an opportunity to symbolically bridge our political gap.

And, just to be clear, I don't hate TT. I find him to be horribly misguided and feel the chip on his shoulder that helped turn him into a world class goalie has manifested into something negative and unhealthy.

I don't like the walking away part but a good amount of the vitriol he received was not going to the white house. His choice not to go was his. And i feel any person has that right. He doesn't have to tell you about it whether hes a vezina winning trophy, a politician, a musician or anyone with any type of media attention. He proved he would bleed, suffer, and sacrifice for his team. He did it all through those playoffs and every game he's played in for the most part (yes hes had stinkers and his style pissed me off at times but he gave his all 99% of the time). Ference does come off as preachy and makes his feelings known when the subject comes up. Its his right. I don't hate him for it, and i love the guys tenacity. I was simply making a correlation to how he feels politically and being loved and being on par with most people (who isn't for planting trees.. if thomas said he would plant trees people would call him fake i'm sure) but thomas do something "controversal" he's a dirtbag.

1. What difference does it make what country you live in?

2. I'll ask again, what "glory" are you referring to? You think Ference is going to be hailed and beloved for making a charitable donation? Seriously?

3. Hating charity work is simply bizarre.

I guess i should've kept my trap shut.. This is the reason why politics shouldn't be talked about in non-relating threads, messageboards, or bar rooms haha.

Charity work has nothing to do with politics, and Tim Thomas had nothing to do with this thread.

Regardless of political party, religious affiliation, ethnicity, race, gender, or whatever division you want to conjure up, charity work such as this should be applauded and celebrated. Period.

Agree completely. I always found it a shame people (talk radio callers primarily) accused Schilling of doing ALS work for publicity. Thus the nickname "red light".

When did i say him doing charity work was bad? Do tell? he was challenged to do something and he did.. i congratulate him. I love how i'm conjuring up a division. Everything is political. On many of his radio interviews he talks about his politics. If tim thomas said he would plant 50 trees for any athletic thing he did he'd still have to no good will come his way from many of the fans here.

You made a true statement about Timmy's situation in comparison ..

That struck a nerve ....

There is absolutely no connection between a guy and his teammate setting a goal for charity to plant friggin' trees, and a guy blowing off a White House event (and his teammates) because he doesn't like the President. None.

People react like this because they live in fear. They live in fear of joy. and they fear things they dont understand.
I dont believe this is any sort of a political move to "gain" anything by Ference. I DO believe what hes proposing is done so with good spirit....and thats what matters. trying to do something he believes in my using his skills and talent.

i really dont see how this hurts anyone.

stop living in fear....

Yes there is. Its near and dear to his heart. He talks about it and it a political arguing point for him (once again good for him). I was making a connection with the two. A very veiled and thin connection but one nonetheless.

Screw it.. burn the rain forest and punch smokey bear in the face. bah humbug haha.

There is nothing political about this. The issues with Thomas for me were separate from his political views, it was the fact he would put these public politcal diatribes on facebook out there and call them private feelings to avoid questions and created a media firestorm. Sorry, but if you put them out there for the world to see it's not so private. I had to learn that the hard way getting suspended from high school for saying some not so nice things about a teacher back when myspace was cool . Ference seems to be a charitable person beyond just writing the checks, as mentioned earlier his trips to Africa for Right to Play, etc. If this tree panting initiative causes a media backlash that disrupts the team then I'll take exception to it , until then it's not hurting anyone.
