Player Discussion: Andrei Vasilevskiy - Part 2

Came into the night around 13-15 in save % depending how on how many goalies you take out due to game volume. He’s 14th if we include goalies with 12 or more starts.

And that was before Toronto obliterated him. He’s playing like a mid level nhl starter for 9.5 mil a year. Just not gonna cut it if the Bolts are gonna make another run

One of two things are true. Either we are very very unlucky in that we are getting goalied half the games we play or goaltending around the league is much much better than recent years.

I am glad Vasy is back to being very good, and maybe he deserves credit for elevating goaltending around the league but it seems like with elite goaltending seemingly all over the place paying a large chunk of salary cap for a goaltender is not the correct move in the current meta.

We lead the league in goals per game, not bad for a team getting goalied in half of its games.

When he's down people blame the defense so when he's up the defense should get credit too right?
Ryan McDonagh has been outstanding the last 8 games and a +18 in that span, no surprise his departure/re-arrival has coincided with Vasy's swings.

Definitely a big part of it but I was one who was criticizing some of the softies he gave up and lack of big saves and he's turned that specific part around himself lately.
