Vasy is underappeciated and is getting in playoff mode. Time for the boys to get the band back to making bangers and show ready.
Hopefully he is getting into playoff mode but how anyone can call him underappreciated is beyond me. He is far and away the most lauded goalie of the past decade and possibly since the likes of Hasek, Roy and Brodeur, and deservedly so. Can expectations of constant perfection be perhaps unfairly meted out on occasion? Maybe, though he does make $9.5M per, but underappreciated, not a chance.

Two cups so I guess it’s all with it. Maybe just a bad year but outplayed by a nobody and a below average goalie. He’s overpaid right now. But hey two cups. Maybe his best days are behind him

I give him next season to see how he bounces back after a long off season of rest. He's been bad, but he and the team deserve some much needed time off.

That said, the team is only gonna get thinner due to cap, so last year and this year was the last of our window. It's not closed as we could go on a run but we aren't even in the top 5 or 6 anymore of teams expected to win/contenders going into 2023/24 season

Until the war Russia is waging against Ukraine is over, I will largely give VASY and Kuch a pass … we Americans have no clue what it’s like for them. I do believe it has affected both of them.

and we should be thankful for that.

I mean Kuch still put up 100+ points. Sergachev had his best season offensively. But yeah maybe it's gotten to Vasi. Such speculation is a bit useless though.

Kucherov remains a top-5 player in the world though.

Hadn't thought of the war as a reason for Vasy's... I don't even know what to call it. It doesn't look physical. It looks like he gets caught napping, or like his eyesight is deteriorating. He's getting beat a LOT on simple floaters, and he just can't seem to come up with those key saves anymore.

We should have held them to one goal in that game. The team played well enough for that, and they gave him three goals in support. And, while I don't think it's unreasonable to give Vasy the benefit of the doubt, I do think it's going to be nearly impossible to win this year. We dominated that game.

Can’t blame the war on Vassys performance. He has been great in the past but simply hasn’t stepped up this year. At his price tag that’s tough.

I was watching with a couple of guys that I think are pretty new to hockey (one of them I got into my fantasy league so he's brand new) and I told them I was pretty sure where that OT goal was scored from is like no man's land on a goals-scored heat map.

Inconsistency can happen, even though I have to agree that his performance this year hasn't been close to good.

But what's worring me the most is the back to back poor performances.
One of Vasy's main strenghts during our runs in the last 3 postseasons was his ability to become a God the game after he put up a performance not up to his standards.

Our destiny is tied to his: he performs, we win. He doesn't, we lose.

Start Smelliott. At least Eddiott can make routine saves.
Elliot is basically a corpse. There would be no point in even playing the game if he was in net. Vasy has sucked and he probably won't rebound from this game since he didn't rebound from his last god awful performance but he's literally our only option.

I miss the times where you could trust that the goalie wouldn't lose us a game no matter what. Those times seem to be over now. The gameface Vasy has been replaced by the thousand yard stare Vasy.

This is bothering me too. He's such a competitive guy, the fact that he didn't come back from Game 2 sharp is a really bad sign moving forward.

This is just so wrong. Eliot played GREAT several times this year, and at this point you're only asking him to avoid gaffes. Who knows if he can do it, but Vasi's confidence has to be shot now and the Lightning stand no chance of winning if he doesn't dramatically improve. As many have mentioned, this is NOT just an isolated incident . . . he's been pretty bad all year, and much of last, I also wonder if he'd let the "greatest goalie in the world" stuff go to his head, as well as the unwavering defense of his performances by his coach. At some point he needs to be held accountable, just like everyone else. Cooper benched his top line earlier in the season for underperforming . . . has this EVER happened to Vasi? If not, maybe it should.

The guy allowed 34 goals in his last eight games. That's 4.25 goals per game. He also got all the easier games in that stretch. I'm sorry but the guy is toast and I would be very surprised to see him get a job next season.

I don't agree with putting in Elliott but I do think everyone including Cooper and the guys in the locker room need to stop pumping his tires so much, not say he's shit or anything but stop reflexively saying he's the best. They all need to improve and Vasi needs to be grouped into that not just "we have to play better in front of him"

I'm sure Vasilevskiy holds himself accountable in the locker room. He's very humble. The players pump his tires because he is most likely extremely self critical.

That said, I think he got too used to having top notch D-men in front of him. Our blueline went from stacked to suspect. I am still mystified about the trade deadline moves.

That's true about his personality.

The kind of bad goals he's letting in aren't the Grade A type, they're the type of cheap little shots even the best defense in the world can't prevent because they're so low percentage you don't bother selling out for them.

It's frustrating. The core players are not getting younger but are still elite enough to win it all but one key piece is going to potentially prohibit that from happening.
Too bad. Hoping he figures it out like right now.
