Flames are currently hanging around the wildcard in the West (incredibly on brand) but assuming they stumble leading up to the TDL, what would your team offer for either of these players?

Andersson: 28 yr old RD, 2 years left at 4.55mil (Flames can retain)

Weegar: 30 yr old RD, 6.25mil AAV until 2031, NTC that becomes a modified NTC in 27/28 (Flames wouldn’t retain but worth noting the contract is relatively buyout friendly in the last 2-3 years, when Weegar will be 35-37)

I imagine Calgary is happy to keep both guys so it would likely have to be a pretty decent offer to pluck either one. For Weegar obviously it would need to be a team he’s willing to waive for, he can also play the left side

I think Calgary will keep both, and extend Andersson.

I think a lot of teams that are retooling/rebuilding get rid of these kinds of players and then sorely miss them as they try to get better with youth. You think of teams at the bottom of each of the divisions.. how much would a team like Columbus love to have Weegar to help not have to play Werenski 27 minutes a night just to be somewhat competitive; or Buffalo being able to use Weegar or Andersson to help alleviate not having to play a bunch of under 24 year olds all night. Teams get rid of these dependable top 4 options, only to try and replace them with young (which doesn't work, defenders don't hit their prime until their mid-late 20's) or overpay these jabroni depth guys and slot them a pairing or two higher than a competitor would.

Have to think Calgary will want both these guys around when Parehk and Brzustewicz make the jump next year or the year after.

Weegar is not going anywhere and Conroy will only trade Andersson if he states hes not signing an extension. Cost of Andersson would be huge. #1 defensemen making less than 5mil dont grow on trees.

If I am Buffalo I would offer Cozens up for Andersson. Cozens probably doesn't get it done but thats where I would start.

I'd be more inclined to target Weegar than Andersson, although only Rivet connections can help us.

I agree this is the most likely scenario. I think the Ras extension will be a lot more reasonable than most people think too. It is fun to see what’s out there though

Having two really solid vets to help bring the promising young D in Calgary along would be a huge benefit and playing important games down the stretch is a big part of player development imo

What about some kind of Cozens Byram for Kadri Andersson mashup or is Byram a guy the sabres want to hold on to

It's actually interesting, but I'd prefer Weegar, not Andersson. But we could build a deal around that. Rumor has it that Byram wants to be 1D and be on PP1, that won't happen in Buffalo, maybe Calgary would be a better fit for him, Idk. We just need a vet like Weegar more in our defense than Andersson.

The Oilers would be interested in either. I can't imagine Conroy trades with the Oilers though.

Andersson at 50% for Edmonton's 1st in 2026, St. Louis 2nd in 2025, Jeff Skinner (for salary purposes) and Matt Savoie.

Again, I don't expect it would happen because of the teams involved, but that's what I would offer.

It’s not a bad offer but I think if they were moving him for that kind of package they could probably get a higher first than the Edmonton one

Love Andersson and hope the Flames extend him but I wouldn't call him a #1 defenseman.

Possibly. And possibly one in 25 instead of 26. That's why I included Savoie, arguably our best prospect.

I like Savoie too but we all know if it came down to it and a team like Dallas were offering their first and say Bischel or Bourque that the flames would probably lean that way given the rivalry

C and LD are probably the flames biggest need organizationally though so all 3 of those packages would be interesting if Calgary feels that Ras doesn’t want to stick around (which I don’t think is the case)

Love Andersson and hope the Flames extend him but I wouldn't call him a #1 defenseman.

Depends on your definition of #1 D. He’s not a Hedman or a Josi obviously but I’d be hard pressed to name 31 better D in the league. You can replace 1D with top pairing RD and the point still stands though

Weeger is 31 in a few weeks. His age concerns me with where Buffalo is at.
But Andersson is not the type of defenseman we need. 31 is not that much for a player like him. I just don't see why we need another PMD who wants PP time. Weegar on the other hand is definitely a better defenseman in defense, can play both sides, a perfect veteran and mentor for our young defense.

Slightly prefer Weegar as his defence is soo good. Ras is awesome as well. Both are exactly what the Canucks desperately need. Only concern would be Weegar's age

Canucks offer:

Lekkerimaki
Sawyer Mynio
1st
4th

Lekky and Mynio are both in the top 5 of Canucks top prospects. Lekky was WJC MVP last year and is a pure sniper. 11Goals in 18 games in the AHL thus far. Mynio is one of our top Dman prospects. Made Team Canada WJC. Getting reviews like " most improved player in CHL hockey" " Elite CHL defender"
His game has been compared to the likes of Dan Hamhuis/Devon Toews

He is a right handed two way defenseman and while I agree Buffalo needs someone physical and defense first I would trade Byram or Power if we got Andersson.

Power, Dahlin and Byram on Buffalo doesn't make sense.

Who cares if he's right handed if he's just not that type of defenseman and then in a year he's going to UFA because he's not getting PP1 time. We have Dahlin and Power/Byram, we need two more defensive top 4 RDs.

Weegar is my number one target among defenseman, I have already said this before.

To me it doesn't make sense having 4 LHD and forcing defense to play on the off side. You don't see it as an issue?

Samuelsson, Dahlin, Power, Byram all LHD.

Tbf he’s been on and off PP1 for the flames over the past 3-4 years. Kind of rotated between whoever had the hot hand between him Hanifin and Weegar. Doesn’t seem to bother him much

His chance against metrics have kind of suffered over the past 2 years while the team has been meh but he’s not a guy that’s a liability defensively whatsoever. Weegar is probably a better fit stylistically for what the sabres need though, I’ll give you that

Are you reading what I'm writing? We need two top 4 RDs that are more defensive.

Yeah, I think that's a problem, even though Dahlin can play RD, we still need more defensive D. You yourself wrote on our board that we need to fix the defense, guys who play good defense.

Dahlin - Weegar
Power/Byram - xxxx

Exactly, he is not the type of defenseman we need, Weegar would fit perfectly into our young defense.

I'd love to have Andersson behind Seider on the RHD and we desperately need the help with Petry as our current 2RHD... But Detroit ain't paying the price he'd demand.
