Rasmus Andersson having another year at that dirt cheap $4.55M is going to seriously inflate his value if he is dealt. He's probably in line for an $8M extension on the horizon, but in the meantime, it's like getting him at half price.

I'd pay a lot from a Vancouver perspective for him. And they do like to do trades with the Flames. He'd be the perfect anchor to that 2nd pairing, with some actual puck-moving ability. And the cheap AAV makes it viable to fit that in...for this year and next at least.

But Andersson is not the type of defenseman we need. 31 is not that much for a player like him. I just don't see why we need another PMD who wants PP time. Weegar on the other hand is definitely a better defenseman in defense, can play both sides, a perfect veteran and mentor for our young defense.
Cozens, Östlund, and your best LHD prospect for Weegar?

Looks like a lot, although I really like Weegar. What about Kulich + Samuelsson + pick maybe? Cozens may also be available for a deal, but we need to somehow compose it differently.

I think if he wants the full 8 year extension his number starts with a 7 tbh. In fact if he extends in October of next year, like Weegar did when he had a year left on his deal, 7 flat would be the exact same % of the cap (if it’s 92.4 as projected for next season)

I could see Ras maybe getting 7.5 but I don’t think it starts with an 8 unless he’s taking less term

Samuelsson has completely negative value, so no thank you to him, but something around Kulich does work.
You might also be interested in a player like Ryan Johnson, LD prospect/player, I like him but for some reason he barely gets a chance on our team when other marginal defensemen often keep playing. I'd like to see him at least play on the third pairing for us, but he's unlikely to go any higher with Dahlin and Power. Maybe he could get a chance with you guys.

Habs will be all over Andersson if he becomes available this summer and agrees to sign an extension as part of the deal.

If Calgary is looking for prospects and picks, Habs would be able to put a package that would be tough to beat, as we got a boat load of picks and prospects. If Calgary wants a roster player ala Cozens, we don’t have that kind of asset to spare so we wouldn’t be in the running.

Unless he takes less to pick his spot, i don't see how Rasmus would get less than someone like say...Hronek or Montour. And with the rising cap...i think it's entirely plausible that he pushes at least closer to $8M. So that's definitely something to factor in.

But in the meantime, he's such a steal.

Would you give up Reinbacher?

Yeah I'm willing to do that. What about Samuelsson (For cap purposes), Kulich, Johnson, and protected 2026 1st (I would do a 2nd if Samuelsson wasn't in the deal).

Well, we don't necessarily have to get rid of Samuelsson, especially if we trade Johnson, then I would probably keep Samuelsson.

I'd be more inclined to target Weegar than Andersson, although only Rivet connections can help us.
Just curious, why? Doesn't Andersson fit what they need better? He's more physical, he's from what we can gather a better leader, he's just as offensive, and I'd even argue slightly better defensively. The Sabres have tons of LD already and Weegar prefers and plays better on his off-side; for all intents and purposes, I'd count him as a RHS LD. If all thingns were equal, I'd take Ras over Weegar all-day

Because Weegar is better at defense, he is the vet we need. We already have three PMDs, we are missing a player like that. Weegar can play both sides, but that is not a problem, Dahlin likes to play RD, so that would be a great first pair for us.

Would rather keep both but only if the contract for Ras makes sense and he wants to be here. Like @Volica said at the start of the thread I think the reason a lot of clubs circle the drain and struggle to improve is that it is very hard to rebuild a blueline from scratch with a bunch of early 20s guys and vets on their last legs. You want players in their prime that can take matchups and eat minutes and shelter young dmen especially.

Some pretty decent offers in this thread though. Flames have a lot of promising D prospects and I don't think it's out of the question there's two or three top 4 NHL dmen in there already. Tough call for Conroy tbh, which way it goes should tell us a lot about what kind of rebuild we're going to be looking at.

What number value do you think Ras is worth? For his next contract.

It would never happen but as an Oiler fan id give up a ton for him.

well shit if a stats card says it, it must be true! I really wish these stupid things were never invented. There is no chance the gap in defensive play is that large between them, I can understand an argument for Weegar, but it's close regardless of what expected stats tell you.

I'm a Canucks fan and i've seen both of these guys a bit.
Weegar is not just a legit top pairing guy, he's the most under-rated No.1 Dman in the league. He really impresses me.... imagining him as Hughes partner makes me think that this could be the best pairing the NHL has seen in like 20 years.

People dont realize how good he is, let me explain.

He's pretty much a 200/200 guy (as in 200 hits and 200 blocks a season) WHILE putting up 40-50 points a season. (with at least 30 points being even strength). he can play 22-24 minutes a night, and his Even strength corsi numbers are very strong generally speaking and relative!
His relative even strength corsi numbers has been positive EVERY YEAR HE'S EVER PLAYED in the league, on two different teams.

to summarize, he's very interesting to study... no.1 guys are either like super offensive attacking guys, or shut down guys, or possession / first pass guys... but he doesn't quite fit any of those molds. He's very busy on the ice, in a very productive way. to put up 200 hits, 200 blocks a year WHILE producing offense AND not giving up a ton of grade-A chances against just speaks volumes.
People may think i'm crazy, but he's busier, less flashy version McAvoy.... but even more effective. imho

Rasmus is a great player... he's produce a ton of offense and not really hurt you in the D zone but he's not making the same OVERALL impact.

Man I don't have a chance to watch Flames games so I have to go by cards like this and the opinions of you guys, the fans. But I know Weegar has always been good on defense, ever since Florida. I don't know much about Andersson, maybe I'm wrong and these cards don't reflect that.

Is Andersson good at defense? Bad? Average? Decent? I'm mainly interested in his game and style of play. Maybe the first pair of Dahlin - Andersson will be very good?

I just think Weegar is more needed right now, his vet leadership, his defensive play, he has at least some connection to Buffalo. While I don't believe anyone wants to come to Buffalo anymore, maybe even Andersson probably has Buffalo in his six M-NTC teams.

They're both average to marginally above average defensively IMO, they both have their ups and downs. This year Andersson is getting all the big minutes, against all the top lines.

Hmm, tough question. Kind of depends if he hits the open market or not. Also on if he's having himself a nice contract year. Hanifin signed for 7.35 per x 8 and I'd expect it to be north of that, but not substantially so if he signs an extension before hitting UFA.

I'd probably be alright with anything up to and including 8 with the Flames but you go beyond 8.25 I think that's entering dumb deal territory. He's great when he's great but I don't think he's been consistent enough to call him a bonafide #1.
Ya I think you and I both know there's good reason Conroy wouldn't want to see him in Edmonton, if they were to deal him especially this year I think they'd get several attractive offers. It would really have to blow the others away.

I think Ras is re-signed July 1. My guess is 7.5-8 for 8 years. I also believe he'll be our next captain.

Slightly prefer Weegar as his defence is soo good. Ras is awesome as well. Both are exactly what the Canucks desperately need. Only concern would be Weegar's age

Canucks offer:

Lekkerimaki
Sawyer Mynio
1st
4th

Lekky and Mynio are both in the top 5 of Canucks top prospects. Lekky was WJC MVP last year and is a pure sniper. 11Goals in 18 games in the AHL thus far. Mynio is one of our top Dman prospects. Made Team Canada WJC. Getting reviews like " most improved player in CHL hockey" " Elite CHL defender"
His game has been compared to the likes of Dan Hamhuis/Devon Toews
Surprised nobody has taken you up on this offer, seems pretty solid.
