Reminder: they already agree on AAV, they are arguing about term. Only a very foolish organization would let a guy like Lee walk over the idea the last year of a contract could be bad. Please don't let the Isles be that organization.
It’s not though if it’s five years vs seven as a 34 yr old Lee could be very different from a 36 yr old Lee. I’d imagine isles are at five with him and he gets seven yr offers and he is gone. If he signs for five he clearly wants to be here no matter what but you can’t blame him for taking the seven and extra 14-15 million.

If Lou doesn't have a legit Plan B lined up, and maybe Plan B is actually Plan A, then those who have been critical of him will have been on target. While I am still not 100% sold on Lou yet, I think he's too much of pro to let that happen and would be shocked, and angry, if it did.
I agree Lou isn’t dumb like Snow, Lou has his offers to Lee and Lehner and that’s what it is. I’m sure they know what they are doing if those guys don’t take the offers.

I love the guy but he had a disappointing year and horrible playoff season. He's probably a six million dollar man but I'll give him $7 x 5 because he's great in the locker room and a great ambassador for the Isles.

At this point, I think both parties are exploring other opportunities and will circle back to each other by the end of the week. Lee can check his worth on the open market and Lou can investigate his possible replacements. This week is a Hall Pass for both of them.

A) Because pretty much every report we have seen has said money per year isn't the holdup, length of the deal is.

B) By term I am referring to number of years. Think it was pretty clear what I meant so playing a game of semantics is pointless.
No one is playing semantics. First of all, reports don't mean a thing, particularly when Lou is involved. Didn't Staple, and most reports, have Ebs as good as gone? As to money and AAV, it's a legit and fundamental question and you cannot separate the two, particularly given that payouts are almost never evenly spread out over the term.

5 is the max here in my opinion. If some other team offers 6 or 7 years, good for him but NYI should move on without him. I mean I personally think he probably only has 3-4 good years in the tank, but I'd be willing to eat an additional year because UFA. But 6-7 years is crazy for this type of player.

Sometimes a step back for one year will help you take two steps forward the following year.

I don’t think lee is coming back.

One thing that may hurt Lee is being lumped in with the three ex-linemates of Tavares who got fat contracts and played poorly without him . And while those guys surprised and disappointed immediately after they played with Tavares, Lee has a head start because he already has one disappointing season under his belt without pajama boy. I'm not sure he's going to get the years and number he wants from anyone. I think he'll be back.

We shall see. I just don’t feel good about it. Also, memories are short. PA Parenteau and Matt Molson were a long time ago. Lee also didn’t bottom out as hard as those two.

Best of luck to him. The only way I’ll be extremely pissed off is if he leaves and no offense is brought in to not only replace him, but add to the train wreck that was the Islanders offense this past season

maybe its a good thing for anders to listen to some other offers then circle back . same goes for lou - kick some tires for a few days this coming week and circle back to anders again .

“You know what? I never thought we’d be to this point but I guess it’s the nature of what this week means,” Lee said on Saturday. “But that doesn’t change how I feel.
“There’s not really a day or a moment that I haven’t put my thoughts into everything,” Lee added. “I hope it all works out. I haven’t enjoyed thinking about the other options.”

Lehner still focused on re-signing with Islanders

I think the fact Lee isn't signed yet means he's gone. If that means Lou has an extra million to overwhelm Panarin into signing, I won't cry.
I'd be fine with Panarin, but would rather give up four 1sts and get a much younger Marner for that money.

I was thinking Moulson, KO, and Vanek
Moulson and Vanek were 5 years ago, Okposo was 3 years ago. Each one of those players bottomed out hard. Lee’s first season without Tavares wasn’t as bad.

It wasn’t very good either

'Wasn't as bad" translates to a disappointing season

I think factoring in Tavares is fair at this point... and whether it's fair or not you know some GMs are wondering.

I would be sad but if he is dead set on a 7 year deal than I say good luck and I wish you well. My absolute best offer would be 7x6 and that is still probably too much. I think 7.5M for 5 years should be enough.

I could easily see Lee in 5 years posting numbers as bad as Ladd
