Speculation: And yet again...the Off-Topic Thread

I have to replace a couple of 12 inch subs in diy speaker towers and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for credible sites to buy from? Not looking to go expensive on this (the originals weren't exactly high end) but would like to get these things up and running again.

Recommendation for 12" subs? Stay away from subway and find a local deli. If you're forced to go to a chain? Jersey Mike's or Jimmy Johns.

Honestly though really depends what you're looking for. But sonicelectronix.com has some different Rockford fosgate open box subs for cheap.

Or just look at all their open box selections for yourself

Have bought audio stuff from Crutchfield several times. Always a good experience. Installed a head unit and backup cam into a car once and they walked me through a tricky question I had on the phone, so that was nice.

thanks folks. Really just looking for reputable places where I can buy safely from. I have no idea if the towers are worth putting new subs in; they were made over 20 years ago and I don't remember them sounding bad when they worked. Got a bad feeling I'll end up having to replace the mids and tweeters, too.

Hope the new year has started well for you two.

I'm probably late, but as others have mentioned, sonicelectronix and crutchfield are the two big players in the industry and have everything one would need. Amazon has some brands that are decent for the price if you're on a strict budget like Skar Audio or Rockville. A few years ago I helped a friend put an enclosure together for a 10" Rockville sub before I ever heard of the brand and was very surprised at how good the sub actually was. I was a total audio nut for around a decade before I started buying newer vehicles that were a PITA to modify and not worth it. I then transitioned to buying expensive audio equipment and headphones for use with my PC. When I quit using psychedelics and found sobriety as a whole, the high end audio thing pretty much died out for me:laugh:

Basically, you just have to figure out the chamber volume the subs are going in to in cubic feet and the RMS power the subs will be receiving and find a sub that matches what you have. Mids and highs are much less sensitive to enclosure volume, the higher the hertz the less sensitive they are to the enclosure due to the shorter wavelength, although they do greatly benefit from something subs generally do not which is sound dampening in the enclosure or behind the speakers/tweeters. The exception to speakers being more picky about their enclosure volume is if your tower is a horn-loaded enclosure which many tower setups have, then you have to be much more careful with speaker/mid selection. Basically, just make sure the RMS power output of your amplifier matches with all your subs/speakers/tweeters, have proper enclosure volume for the sub, and put sound dampening material behind your speakers/tweeters. Depending on the headunit in a car, or home receiver/amplifier, adding crossovers so each speaker is only being told to play the proper frequencies is the next step. Audio is fun and my advice to anyone is that once it sounds good to you quit spending money on it because the possibility for upgrades never ends.

Came back just as the Wings got hot. Perfect timing.

We may have out disagreements, but in the end we're all Wings fans. I can't believe how much difference the coaching change made. Crazy.

I'll enjoy watching games at local bars.
From memory, you are an engineer too?

I know what it is like moving for work too, I spent 16 of the last 20 years out west for work, moved aback in 2021 after the last project was completed.
