Verbeek is now in record stating next season its time to start winning. Anaheim could use top 6 forward and top 4 dman just curious what they could get with this pick presuming it's 1 to 3

Thomas? Kaprizov? Not saying they're worth a top 5 pick necessarily but trying to match this trade with a team who has good assets but needs to rebuild.

Tough to find a trade that would make sense for both sides. Especially if it's #1, I think the Ducks would just take Celebrini and sort it out. But dealing 2-5 might be more feasible.

A semi-recent example could be Boston dangling (impending RFA) Dougie Hamilton leading up to the 2015 Draft. They offered him to Arizona for pick #3 with the intention of drafting hometown product Noah Hanifin. Arizona countered with its 2016 1st instead and Boston declined. They'd later deal Hamilton to Calgary for #15, #45, and #52.

That might be the best case scenario off landing a proven name. RFA + team that's close to the cap.

Or maybe a Kirby Dach-ish trade? I don't think Columbus would deal David Jiricek but who knows if a new GM might prefer taking his own guy?

They’re not trading the pick. Look for him to trade any players underperforming though (Zegras)

Exactly. Keep the pick, move the pieces that aren’t fitting in and find some quality veterans in the offseason to teach the youth how to win in this league.

We have tons of assets, draft picks and cap space …. No reason to really trade zegras at this point.

And it’s tough to say he’s under performing when he’s been injured all year, and even in the games he played in he was more snake bitten than under preforming.

He’s not a 2 way player by any means his job is to produce and he is not. They may not trade Zegras but they could trade someone similar to him who is underperforming.

You’re not gonna trade potentially the #1 pick in the draft over some guy who is underperforming lol the gm would lose his job for that.

Anaheim has a very young team. Lots of their core players going forward are under 21. They need to just play the waiting game for a year or two. They could trade Gibson as he’s getting older and you have dostal but I’m sure they’ll mainly be looking at their skaters.

anaheim trading their 2024 1st is a bad idea. id imagine the value is quite high

If we end up at 4 or 5, and levshunov was off the board…. Might be something to consider.

Aim at a top line forward…. Or a good young rhd

We have other draft picks(and the trade would happen at draft when we actually know the placement of the pick)

…. And again he was injured all season 20 games between injuries isn’t exactly a good enough sample size to get rid of a guy that put up b2b 60 point seasons before 22

Why would he trade Zegras when his value is the lowest it's ever been also how does a team that needs a top 6 forward get better trading one of their 2 or best 3 on the team

Guess how old Zegras is

Before or after the lottery? Because if it's before the lottery a lot of teams would pay premium.

Well I don’t think we’d trade without 1st overall protection, unless a team is really going to gamble over pay on it

Top 5 picks don’t get traded ever. 1 since the lockout and it was to move down.

Definitely hard to make it work for both sides. But teams will kick the tires. Aside from the Dougie Hamilton for #3 offer from 2015, here's a few more rumored offers since the cap era began:

2006: Carolina offered the rights to Jack Johnson (#3 the previous year) to Pittsburgh for #2. New Pens GM Ray Shero thought about it but ultimately chose to keep the pick. From "Future Greats and Heartbreaks", Columbus GM Doug MacLean tells his staff that they were offered #2 for #6 and a future 1st (plus more?) and whether they thought it was worth trading up for Jordan Staal.

2008: Never saw any details, but Bob McKenzie mentioned during the broadcast that LA got a credible offer for #2. Kings GM Dean Lombardi talked with ownership to make sure they were okay with the slow path (taking Drew Doughty) or if they wanted to make the playoffs that year.

2009: Vancouver might have offered Alex Burrows, Kevin Bieksa, and #22 to Tampa for #2. Not sure if Tampa considered it. Brian Burke unsuccessfully floated Tomas Kaberle to Atlanta/LA for picks #4/5 to get Brayden Schenn.

2010: Columbus seemed willing to listen on #4. Edmonton was interested but weren't willing to include Jordan Eberle.

2014: Florida GM Dale Tallon was willing to listen on the #1 pick. I think Philadelphia offered Brayden Schenn, Vinny Lecavalier, and #17. But talks fell apart when Tallon wanted Wayne Simmonds included.

2015: Dougie Hamilton offered for #3.

2016: Different rumors about P.K. Subban to Vancouver for #5 had Pierre-Luc Dubois been available. Edmonton had something on the table involving #4 and Ryan McDonagh from the Rangers; New York was targeting Clayton Keller.

2017: It probably would have been mostly pick swaps but Vegas wanted to make a splash and get up from #6 to #1 for Nolan Patrick. New Jersey was willing to move to #3 since they'd still be guaranteed at least one of Nico Hischier or Cale Makar would still be available. Problem was that Vegas couldn't convince Dallas to trade down from #3 to #6. Dallas also turned down overtures from the Rangers (#7 and #21).

-----------

Also very much not timely, but Quebec offered the rights to Peter Forsberg to San Jose for the #2 pick in 1993. Quebec wanted Chris Pronger.

After the draft, Sharks GM Dean Lombardi vented to the press about Quebec waiting until the last minute to make the offer. More or less implying that he would have done the dealt contingent on getting Forsberg signed.

Forsberg was about to get Group IV RFA rights and was going to be eligible to sign an offer sheet (a la Teemu Selanne and Calgary the previous summer). Lombardi couldn't gamble on having to match a big contract/signing bonus.

Hard to match a team to give up someone with term for an 18 year old. Why move sure thing for a prospect?
Would have to somehow be a team beginning a decline that decides to move someone in like year 5, as the rebuild would eat up the rest of that player’s 20’s.
Teams like Pitt, Wash, don’t have someone who would fit.

Good that verbeek and Anaheim are looking to get much better. 6 years out of the PO and based on their standings pacing to finish 3rd worst. If that holds in these 6 seasons it’s like 8th worst, 5th worst, 2nd worst, 10th worst, last place, 3rd worst records.
3 bottom 3, a bottom 5 and 2 bottom 10.

Why on earth would Anaheim trade this pick? Especially if it was top 3
Honestly, it would have to be a specific situation, like say where Detroit was a couple of years ago where they are still collecting young talent but have a 25 year old Larkin in 2021. But, I don't think there's an NHL team that is positioned where Detroit was 3 years ago with that type of player at the same age range.

Be it with money or other pieces, Ana has to be prepared to make some moves.

Andersson and Mangiapane for first overall protected 2024 first
Interesting, I wouldn’t want mangiapane(we’d need a right handed forward, I’d prefer kuzmenko over mangiapane). The picks wouldn’t need protection cause this trade wouldn’t happen to post lottery, if pick lands 3-5 this is a solid starting point

Problem is kuzmenko is basically a rental, and Andersson only has 2 years. If I’m trading that high pick I’d prob want a cost controlled forward with Andersson.

I don’t think I’d do it(but it’s a decent starting point) out of curiosity who would you be aiming for at that spot?

Ducks pick is likely #4. IF the guys the scouting team really likes are gone, I could see them shopping the pick. Ducks desperately need a young RHD that they can pair with Minty for the next decade (2 way or DFD). The Ducks are basically set at forward with Zegras/Carlsson/McTavish/Terry/Gauthier... they can add a complimentary forward for a lot cheaper than a top 5 pick later on. If they move the pick, it should be 1 for 1 for a RHD that may be a year or two ahead of where the current pick is, maybe if a team really likes a player (especially a forward) available at the Ducks pick. If Demidov or Lindstrom are viewed by a team as a legit super star, maybe they offer a RHD for one of them.

That’s fair too, we need a vet top6 forward imo , but those guys arnt going to cost a top 5 pick
