Agree with the annoucer that Hirose wasbest he's ever been at this level. Abby defense was better this game

Some other good efforts:

Sassons - led the push in the third. Say the best forward

Klimo - created some chances and scored. Far from perfect, and far from NHL level, but important in this game

Felton - you worry about size but he is a very good skater. Showed huge range in the first when he came aways back to join the rush and almost scored when the pass went to the crease. Thought him and Brisebois looked effective.

McWard - from his usage seems the Canucks are keying on his development. Had a couple of plays on the boards were players got the inside on him too easily and then made plays to the net, but overall solid.

Pettersson - you can see the potential. However, don't like to see him in the role of being the team's only player providing pushback

Not good: Smith. Just like the other mostly useless vet forwards on this team.

I'm pleased and somewhat relieved to see Lekkerimaki up with Vancouver now. As far as I'm concerned the faster ypu can get your real blue chip prospects graduated and out of the AHL the better. Five games, perfect! There's really nothing to deter the league's numerous pure goons from doing to Lekkerimaki what Montana Onyebuchi just did to Mark Friedman. It's like the 1970s down there with the AHL seeming to market the violence to the fanbase.

And not a word from the league to Onyebuchi for that, just as there wasn't a peep when Podkolzin embarrassed Keaton Middleton on the ice and paid for it with a vertical pile driver straight down on his head and then went into convulsions on the ice. The fans like this sort of thing we're led to believe.

Anyway, I'm super excited to see Lekkerimaki up with the big team and I really hope he can stick around. His hands and his smarts are world clas imho.

I was surprised to see him sitting lately myself. I still think he's played really well as a 20 year old rookie pro, but sitting a couple won't hurt him, He can pick things up watching up top. Fellton had been sitting until this weekend and he came out like a house on fire. I think we're in pretty good shape on the blueline downj there, the depth this year is insane.

I think we can thank Malhotra for the turn around in Klimovich's fortunes. Manny seems to be good withy the kids, whereas Jeremy Colliton was the opposite. I was in the minority but I preferred Trent Cull's work on the farm to Colliton's, and I still do.

Of course credit to Klimovich for getting himself ready to perform this year as well.

I'm with you. I look forward to seeing what Lekkerimaki will do in the NHL. Never had an easy moment during his time in Abby.

At times the AHL is a wild-west show with mid-ice headhunting and dirty hits along the corner boards. I have no idea who's in charge of player supplemental discipline in the AHL--but from I can see, it's a joke.

I guess there's still a good chance he'll eventually be sent back down---but for now he gets to test himself against the best players in the world.

The Abby Canucks website seems antiquated. Could use way more video news for fans to get more personalized with interviews and the highlights. As ahead as the AHL were with live stats updates the video content sucks and misses the opportunity when people are wanting it.

The X feed is pretty good why don't they attach this stuff to the website. Less than 1 in 3 use X. Feels like they should know this stuff for business opportunity alone

Canucks Army voted D-Petey the first star in the 4-2 win over Bakersfield, even though he didn't pick up a point.

But he's such a great skater for such a big guy, and he's cutting down the open ice in a heartbeat with his mobility and long reach.

He'll probably spend the year in the AHL, but he's not that far away. By time he's 22 I could easily see him sliding into depth role in Vancouver.

Faber works for the Canucks. Hall is the only guy who covers Abbotsford and he lives on the Island. It’s a rhetorical question because, almost, no one seriously covers AHL teams. There’s no money in it. No asks questions about injury ones or line-up decision a because, other than a select few, no one actually cares.

The Abbotsford play by play announcer doesn't even travel with the team on road trips. Mr Aquilini takes shoestring to a whole new level. I believe the Canucks are the only AHL team whose broadcasters don't travel, but maybe there are one or two other examples of this.

All I know is how frustrating and aggravating it is listening to the home team house broadcasters when Abby is on the road. It really sucks, and Mr Aquilini should be embarrassed; he really could, and should do better. The Laval Rocket travel two broadcast crews...

Calgary doesn't do a road PBP. I think it might come down to whether or not the club has a radio broadcast. Most do but Abbotsford and Calgary don't.

I still miss Joe Roberts. That guy was a really good announcer.

Yeah, I have considered it might very well be related to the lack of a radio carrier. Why we haven't managed to find one is another good question I guess.

* a quick search seemed to indicate no relationship between a radio deal and a broadcast team travel budget. According to this AHL broadcasters list a lot of teams lack local radio access and rely on Mixlr just like Abbotsford does and many, if not most of these crews do travel.

Giving Kud some nights off is fine. Big step up from Junior and he's not a big dude. And when he sits so Fenton can get some ice, it's fine.

As long as Kud isn't sitting for long stretches while some no-hopers play instead, I'm not too worried.

Mueller has been something of a revelation with a responsible two way pro game just as advertised. Credit must go to Omaha-based Canucks scout Billy Pugliese for finding this guy, a double overage, at the university in his own back yard. That's a savvy looking pick in the fourth round of the draft. A year later he's playing in the AHL and not looking at all out of place.

Klimovich's story has been more of a resurrection as he was looking dead and buried last year. But reports of his demise have proven premature as he has been playing the best hockey of his young career. Easy to forget he's still just 21 years old! Credit to Manny Malhotra and to Danila himself for an impressive rebound. He's looking like a prospect once again.
