Odds are on my side but you’re entitled to hope it doesn’t happen. I hope it doesn’t happen.
A guy like Cam Fowler has lost a step at 32, and he’s a great skater. It’s a natural occurrence for a player. Cam’s not carrying the weight Parayko is, nor putting that pressure on his back at his size. But hey, maybe he’ll be a freak of nature like Chara was. History tells us that won’t be the case though. Especially with a top heavy skater.
I hope he doesn’t lose a step. I appreciate what he’s been able to accomplish at his size. The odds just aren’t on his side with another 5 years after his 32nd birthday. That’s just reality for dmen over 6’4” with these forwards getting quicker and quicker every year. The bigger they are, the less they can afford to lose a step.
That’s no secret amongst NHL managers. If he had 2-3 years left, that’s one thing. 5 after his 32nd birthday? Teams just don’t line up to take those contracts.
I think the Blues wanted the Ducks to simply take a contract as they are close to the max of 50 (48 now, would've been 49 with Biakabutuka with Snuggerud still to sign).
From the little I've seen of Fowler on the Blues so far, he has looked like an absolute upgrade over what we've had this season so far. Now we no longer have to play guys like Joseph and Kessel.
Also he's a spring chicken compared to Suter, who plays the same position on the team.

If Fowler can just eat minutes and get the puck out of the zone and provide some additional offense from the Back end it should be a win.
And if the Blues stay stuck in the 11-15th overall pick hell the entire season hopefully we can rejuvenate some of his trade value and recuperate some picks later this year or in the offseason.
The whole point of HFBoards is for people to shout out erratic and knee jerk opinions over subjects they barely understand. We are like a sports radio call in show with no host.
I don’t think it helped that Dom and his friends (who solely rely on his piss poor model to tell who’s good or not) spent a whole day on Twitter trying to dunk on the Blues for making this move.
I think it’s pretty clear to everyone that he just needed a change of scenery with a coach that has a better defensive structure than Cronin.
