I get it. But it is not an urgent need by any means and it is something that you can work around if need be. I think it is odd to react to this trade with "we need a 7th dman" (which was some people's reaction) rather than "what a great trade".

We just disagree on the bolded which is fine. In any event, guys on the third and fourth line are there for a reason. Lundy is, at worst, an average 4th liner given he's generally a good defender, can skate, and can PK. I won't be upset if they don't bring him back, but I think there's a role for him next year. Harkins and Leason are less valuable in my view.

And based on what I've seen of Gaucher (admittedly not much), he doesn't seem like an upgrade even if he's bigger. His AHL Gulls stats are bad.

Lundy is, AT BEST, an average 4th liner. That's his ceiling on any given night, but he's often below it. He's an ok defender and he can PK for one of the worst PK units in the league. When he has the puck, he's a turnover waiting to happen. He's hardly the Ducks' biggest problem, but it's time for an upgrade.

Lundestrom is kind of unique in that he has a very refined skating stride and has the archetypal physical profile for a hockey player. He looks the part A LOT more than other fringe NHL players.

but he just doesn't do anything with the puck. I don't care either way what happens with him but he seems like a super nice guy.

NHL teams almost always carry a 7th roster D, in case someone goes down while you're on a road trip etc.

No problem. Zegras was playing the point on the PP.

Cronin is trying to develop the ultimate 2-way player. Well maybe not 2-way. A couple more years and Z will be a shutdown d-man.

He already has a suspension for a hit. Might be closer than we think.

Many here see fourth liner = physical and mean, but IMO cap crunch has changed the game to where a fourth line can't afford to be physical, mean, and otherwise useless.

Your fourth line is essentially a chance to give your other three lines a breather. Are they more physical than your stars? Probably, but they're not physical enough to where it detracts from their ability to play.

They're swiss army knives - good enough at enough things to not be a liability, but not good enough at anything to cost enough money that will prevent spending money on better players.
I believe that is what Gaucher will bring. He isn’t a one-dimensional fighter type.

Leason doesn't hit anyone. Super soft. Traff seems like he will hit better and play more physical which I thought you would appreciate.

Hes not a mean player and has Leason size maybe he throws a few more hits. I dont know much about him so I'll see but hopefully not another Leason, Mcginn, Regenda

That depends on the makeup of your team. If the top 3 lines are mostly small and finesse you definitely need a hard hitting mean 4th line or players like that to sprinkle in.

Just wanna give appreciation to Dumo. He solidified our D-line the past 2 years. We would of been much worse off if we had Zell/Minty in the line up instead of him. I liked him quite a bit. Lots more pucks are going to get shot and through in our D-zone. Hopefully the puck movement/offense from the backend makes up for it

This is/was his first and only year with the ducks. But I agree he contributed and was a perfect bridge to the younger guys, who now need to step up.

Good return. Now Cronin has to play the puck movers.
Inb4 he dresses ross Johnson as zellweger partner and sits mintyukov

A 2nd is a 2nd… a weak draft only matters if you don’t trust your scouts…. I generally trust our scouts making solid picks in any draft.

The Devils board is melting down on this one.

It's kind of hilarious when you think about how NJD fans reacted to the Trouba deal ...

Devs fan: "You bailed the Rangers out. You shoulda weaponized your cap space and gotten more, at least a 2nd or something. Your GM is a moron."

Dumoulin trade happens ... "you mean like this?"

Devs fan: "GAAAAAAAAH"

The irony is our return for Dumoulin vs Fowler is not that different. If Traff hits, the Dumo trade might be a better return.

The other side is moving Fowler early seems to have helped open up our young D for improvement.

Just ironic when you actually compare the two.

Freeing up Zellweger and Minty plus getting Traff is what I really like about the trade. The 2nd round pick is equivalent to a 3rd this year due to the lack of depth in the draft.

Essentially two 3rd round picks for Dumoulin which is still good.

Our recent 3rd round picks:
Masse
Procyszyn
T Smith
Pitre
Sidorov
Pastujov
Moore

So we should get a player with decent potential to make the NHL with the pick.
