Exactly, I’m really looking forward to Gaucher. When we drafted him, beeeker said “Bland but physical and mean? Gaucher should fill that void as soon as next season.
Zero chance they handicap the Gulls playoff push, and less than zero chance he comes up to sit IMO.
They’re on record as wanting the Gulls to make the playoffs though. That doesn’t help the Gulls make the playoffs, and sitting is the worst thing that you can do for his development after he’s starting to figure it out.
Yeah there's no way they spend all that money on Husso to help the Gulls, then turn around and take Luneau away to sit in the pressbox. We can find another Lagesson type (on waivers or for a late pick) to fill the 7th role
Your hate for (or perhaps fixation on) Lundestrom strikes me as disproportionate. We disagree on the value of his play and his upside - totally reasonable. But he's hardly the ducks biggest problem/plug and I think at worst he's a solid 4th liner on any NHL team.M
No more vanilla 4th line Lundestrom and leasons going forward
These takes seem off to me. First of all, we're talking about an emergency 7th D-man who you most likely only need in the case of an injury.
Beyond that, the importance of the NHL team almost always trumps the Gulls' considerations. I have a hard time believing any player on the Gulls roster wouldn't be called up to help the NHL team. And again, we're most likely talking about a game or two (i.e., spot duty) which is good for Luneau's def. I do agree you don't want Luneau sitting.

Lundy does nothing well, unfortunately. Verbeek has stated publicly many times he wants a team that plays hard and is hard to play against. You can just see, with a lot of his draft picks what he’s aiming for. Lundy doesn’t fit his future plans I’m guessing. He was a guy already in our system that we were familiar with in another rebuild year. Each passing season, more and more this team will be a verbeek team. Lundy is a hold over and inherited 4th line vanilla fodder. Hope he can carve out a sam steel career elsewhere. Gl to him he gets hurt a lot to boot. Which I’m sure is also not very appealing to verbeek. Poor guy, I wish him well. These takes seem off to me. I get it. But it is not an urgent need by any means and it is something that you can work around if need be. I think it is odd to react to this trade with "we need a 7th dman" (which was some people's reaction) rather than "what a great trade".NHL teams almost always carry a 7th roster D, in case someone goes down while you're on a road trip etc. They could still rotate Luneau up for a game or two if they wish but I think you need that press box seventh D to fill Dumoulin's slot on the daily roster. Like you said, Luneau isn't being called up to sit, so just grab a waiver fodder type 7th D
We just disagree on the bolded which is fine. In any event, guys on the third and fourth line are there for a reason. Lundy is, at worst, an average 4th liner given he's generally a good defender, can skate, and can PK. I won't be upset if they don't bring him back, but I think there's a role for him next year. Harkins and Leason are less valuable in my view.Lundy does nothing well, unfortunately. Verbeek has stated publicly many times he wants a team that plays hard and is hard to play against. And based on what I've seen of Gaucher (admittedly not much), he doesn't seem like an upgrade even if he's bigger. His AHL Gulls stats are bad.
Lybushkin for a 4th, retained for a 3rdBravo. Honestly fantastic return.
It’s frustrating because these are the deals we should have seen every year for the past 5 years. Take overplayed vets and flip them at the deadline for a good returm

The Gauthier trade was his best by a large margin including the one that didn't count.Verbeek's best deal was probably the one that didn't count. The one for Dadonov.
Franchise changing trade it will end up becoming and already shaping up to be. And it’s very very clearThe Gauthier trade was his best by a large margin including the one that didn't count.
OK. I was more or less focused on all these TDL deals every year. The Gauthier trade was his best by a large margin including the one that didn't count.
Absolutely. I've said it before but yes, I do think our development doesn't get the scrutiny it should.Verbeek has had a lot of good moves IMO. The issue is that the player development and drafting is questionable at this point in time
Perhaps a bigger Carl Gundstrom.Traff sounds like a Leason type but good trade either way
Leason doesn't hit anyone. Super soft. Traff seems like he will hit better and play more physical which I thought you would appreciate.Traff sounds like a Leason type but good trade either way
At least a younger kid who we can groom into being a meaner type player. Cronin would try and bait leason to becoming that type of player. Making public comments like “ it’s just not in his dna” when talking about leason not playing mean. Leason never cared enough to really turn himself into that player for us. Give me some hungry kid anyday with the same looking tool kit as leason but younger and more moldeable.Traff sounds like a Leason type but good trade either way
And there are a lot of the higher upside guys we didn’t get involved with like Monahan and Laine. I would rather see moves that could have gotten us potential top 6 forward or 1st rounders.Lybushkin for a 4th, retained for a 3rd
Kulikov for future considerations, traded for McGinn and a 3rd
Klingberg (granted, we overpaid him…), traded for Sustr, Nesterenko, and Minnesota’s 4th this year
This has just been the most successful, but he has been doing just that.
Many here see fourth liner = physical and mean, but IMO cap crunch has changed the game to where a fourth line can't afford to be physical, mean, and otherwise useless.Bland but physical and mean? Gaucher should fill that void as soon as next season.
I think 4th liners who are good on the PK are gold. Hope Verbeek can find some guys that can possess the puck a bit, kill penalties, and win some faceoffs. This is my hope for Gaucher. Many here see fourth liner = physical and mean, but IMO cap crunch has changed the game to where a fourth line can't afford to be physical, mean, and otherwise useless.
Your fourth line is essentially a chance to give your other three lines a breather. Are they more physical than your stars? Probably, but they're not physical enough to where it detracts from their ability to play.
They're swiss army knives - good enough at enough things to not be a liability, but not good enough at anything to cost enough money that will prevent spending money on better players.

Edit: I guess I just wanted to see us weaponize our cap space more.
