Brilliant, Kevyn, just brilliant! Can't wait to see Swiss Cheese Sandstrom in net when one of the roster goalies gets injured.

Presumably the Ducks could waive Reimer when John Gibson is cleared (3-6 weeks as of late September), so he could end up being reclaimed by the Sabres around the time the Spirit of Halloween stores close up shop.

At least Swiss cheese has places that are reasonably solid. I can't say the same for Sandstrom right now.

How does that work - the waiving team has first crack at a player subsequently waived by the claiming team?
I think it would be like normal waivers. Buffalo would be in line depending on the standings. A team lower than them could claim.

If no team other than Buffalo claims him then they can assign him to the AHL.

Pretty sure he needs to clear the whole league for the Sabres to get him back.

Not sure if it is the rule or not but you definitely see players returning to the original team quite often if waived again.
He just needs to clear the teams in front of Buffalo to go back to Buffalo, but he needs to clear everyone else for Buffalo to be able to send him to the minors

Let's say there are 5 other teams in the league, and Buffalo is 3rd in waiver priority...

Scenario 1
1. Team A - no claim
2. Team B - claim
3. Buffalo - claim
4. Team C - claim
5. Team D - no claim
Team B makes the successful claim even though Buffalo previously owned the player's rights and Buffalo put in a claim

Scenario 2
1. Team A - no claim
2. Team B - no claim
3. Buffalo - claim
4. Team C - claim
5. Team D - no claim
Buffalo makes the successful claim as no one ahead of them put in a claim, but the player stays with Buffalo, as teams after them put in a claim

Scenario 3
1. Team A - no claim
2. Team B - no claim
3. Buffalo - claim
4. Team C - no claim
5. Team D - no claim
Buffalo makes the successful claim, and as no other team put in a claim, they can send the player to the minors

Scenario 4
1. Team A - no claim
2. Team B - no claim
3. Buffalo - no claim
4. Team C - no claim
5. Team D - claim
Team D makes the successful claim even though Buffalo previously owned the player's rights

Scenario 5
1. Team A - no claim
2. Team B - no claim
3. Buffalo - no claim
4. Team C - no claim
5. Team D - no claim
The player stays with the waiving club even though Buffalo previously owned the player's rights, and as no other team put in a claim, they can send the player to the minors

Unless you have a Top-end goaltender, you almost need 3 goalies anymore. One preferably you can send down. They can send Levi down I assume still, no?

Unless Reimer made it clear he didn’t wanna play the 3 headed monster again, after last year in Detroit?

He’s such a good vet to have around too. Did they have to keep a skater over keeping 3 goalies?

Probably for the best anyway, just think it’s a little strange they didn’t keep him, as the 3 headed goalie had to be part of the reason they signed him.

Anyway. He’ll be fine in Anaheim. He’s as professional a goalie as you’ll see, and he played well when called upon last year. Whether it’s his last stop or not this year, we’ll see, but Verbeek is likely to receive some calls on him, as goaltenders start getting hurt.

I think they were trying to be sly with Bussi and Shepard out there as possible enticements. I think they played themselves honestly.

We only need Reimer for like 3 weeks you'll get him back

Yeah. It basically just looks like a 3-4 week "Loan" via waivers. He'll be back on waivers and probably unclaimed whenever Gibson is back. So Buffalo can just reclaim him when everyone else passes.

Unless the goaltending market gets jacked up by early injuries. In which case...still...whatever. He's not better than any of UPL/Levi/Gibson/Dostal. Wouldn't have made sense to me to keep the worse goalie up for Buffalo, and especially not to carry 3 guys.

Plus, worst case if the Sabres don't just get Reimer back in a few weeks, there are always other similar caliber trade options for cheap if you end up desperately in need. You're going to be leaning hard on whichever of UPL/Levi in that case anyway.
