Happy for McIlvane and the boys down there getting rewarded for their stronger play in February. Ensure everyone in the organization is playing meaningful hockey down the stretch.
I don't see it that way at all. Husso is just an injury replacement and gives the Gulls a better opportunity to make the playoffs. This must mean theres a deal in the making for Gibby right? Otherwise PV is doing such an unbelievable favor for his old boss.
Seems like you always whine about posters "whining" about Cronin. The whinging is already too much on this board, I couldn't imagine listening to these two whine into a microphone.
It's well deserved, especially when it seeps into every thread, clogging up meaningful discussions with the 10,000th iteration of FiRe CrOnIn.Seems like you always whine about posters "whining" about Cronin.
Pretty expensive when there could be plenty of waiver options like another Reimer with the incoming trade deadline.I don't see it that way at all. Husso is just an injury replacement and gives the Gulls a better opportunity to make the playoffs.
I agree that it was a little strange that the price was basically nothing. That part is a bit hard to understand.Pretty expensive when there could be plenty of waiver options like another Reimer with the incoming trade deadline.
Anyhow we don’t need other mid or late round pick, but it doesn’t hurt to be greedy haha. I want our scouts to find another Brandon Hagel… it’s been many years since Terry or Kase was found, it’s time we hit on another.
I’m hoping it’s more of a promise to involve us on a bigger brokered deal. I just mentioned on the trade section how they have a gluttony of prospects and an older guy like Tuomisto could be at least a Cayden Fleury trial type if we traded Dumo. I mean nothing for a waived large contract? Especially from a GM and organization that is super frugal.I agree that it was a little strange that the price was basically nothing. That part is a bit hard to understand.
Not hard to understand at all, there are effectively three healthy goaltenders in the organisation right now, and with the Gulls in the middle of a playoff push they need someone there who isn't Butyeyets. Detroit is basically doing us a favour by gifting Husso to us, and we are doing them a favour by taking him off their hands.I agree that it was a little strange that the price was basically nothing. I'm not arguing about the REASON for the trade...that was fine and I agree. I was agreeing with another poster that taking on a minor league goalie with a $3.6 million contract for nothing is a bit strange...should have been worth a 3rd according to puckpedia...Not hard to understand at all, there are effectively three healthy goaltenders in the organisation right now, and with the Gulls in the middle of a playoff push they need someone there who isn't Butyeyets. We've arguably upgraded on Dansk, at the very least, got another #1 for San Diego without having to give anything up.
Given it was looking more likely we would have to sign someone unsigned from the AHL or ECHL....this is very good.
I guess it really doesn't matter when Anaheim still has $17 million left in cap space.
I'm glad the Gulls are getting a little love.
That isn’t how trades work in reality though. It doesn’t really matter what’s considered “fair” for the receiving team to take on a contract, a team isn’t going to attach a pick to move a contract even if it’s poor without having a reason to pay to move the contract out. Husso is expiring in a season where the Wings have more cap space than they’re going to useshould have been worth a 3rd according to puckpedia...
I don't disagree but there is a lot of space between a 3rd and nothing. This isn't a hill I'm prepared to die on but it does seem like Verbeek gave a freebie to Yzerman for whatever reason. I'm not going to lose sleep over it either way. That isn’t how trades work in reality though. I mean you already acknowledged yourself that you understand the reason we made the tradefor whatever reason.
But what I don't understand is why Verbeek gave Yzerman a freebie. Husso is making $4.75 million this year (cash basis) so Verbeek basically paid about $1.5 million for a minor league goalie. I'm sure Yzerman couldn't say yes fast enough.I mean you already acknowledged yourself that you understand the reason we made the trade
This would apply if we didn't have a pretty big goaltending shortage in the organisation. Two of San Diego's goaltenders are out for the season. But what I don't understand is why Verbeek gave Yzerman a freebie. Dansk should be back in SD by the weekend. Gulls have games Wednesday and Friday. So Wednesday will be a problem and maybe Friday. After that they should be fine. Seems like an expensive fix for two games. This would apply if we didn't have a pretty big goaltending shortage in the organisation. Two of San Diego's goaltenders are out for the season.
We need a goaltender much more then Detroit needs salary relief.
