I mean not the worst basis for a trade but I don't think Vatanen is the type of defenseman we would be after.

Honestly Vatanen is signed to a very team friendly deal here, I would imagine that it would take a little more then just Spooner to get Vatanen out of Anaheim at least add a decent pick on it as well.

Eh. Not sure I'd call that deal team friendly. His contract is closer to market value, and that value is based on him contributing at a higher level than he is.

Could he have gotten more on the open market? Probably. Would it have been a good contract? Doubtful.

I wouldnt say it is team friendly. A second pairing defensemen making 5 mil is pretty standard.

So pay Vatanen 5 million and then pay McQuaid 2.75 to be on the bench and block Colin/McAvoy from the NHL? Maybe if you move out both McQuaid and Kevan Miller, but a lineup with Krug, Vatanen and McAvoy seems a bit wild, and not in a good way.
