Speculation: ANA “You don’t have to pinch pennies anymore”

The more I think about it, the more I think something built around Rasmus Andersson (on/after July 1 so he can sign an extension) and Trevor Zegras could make sense for both clubs.
Really no room for Andersson this year with Guda, Trouba, and Helleson already on the right side and Moore knocking on the door. Maybe the Ducks will just sign him as a UFA a year from now.

I really doubt he hits UFA, I suspect if he's extended by the Flames, he'll traded and extended.

I really doubt he'd give up a UFA payday and sign with the Ducks this year. He'll either stay in Calgary (if they want him) or go UFA and cash in. No reason for him to not test free agency if he is leaving Calgary.

Why, did David Thomson sell his interest in the Jets?
The Ducks owner’s stock in his chip company went up billions. Something like 11 billion increase IIRC

Edit: so he was at 4.8 billion, and now is at 20.9 billion. Jets owner still has him beat, but he’s probably at 2 or 3 now.

Why not just wait until the TDL and get a much better return for him? He'll be much more valuable then than now.

That's certainly possible and probably the more likely scenario. If we're talking right now though, that's what I'd be looking at. If a team offered a 1st or a Ritchie type prospect, fantastic. I'd be surprised if that happened though.

Nucks fans might not love this trade but something like Zegras, one of the Ducks many talented young D (Zellweger) and next years 1st?

LOL, no.

Luneau, as well.

Honestly I don’t think zel + zeg + 1st is that bad if the 1st was protected.

Ep40 has shown he can put up 80-100 points at nhl lvl…. His contract isn’t bad as cap goes up.

My biggest question is what is all the drama in Vancouver.

How do ducks fans see Terry's status in Anaheim? Any chance he'd be available?

Kinda the leader of the team, and the young players.... doubt hes going to be moved anytime soon.

And in the right system with a working PP... his contract is going to look really good

Reactions: Ducks DVM
Ducks are entering the danger zone of making moves that will get them closer to the playoffs but further away from the SC. I hope Verbeek can avoid stupid moves just to try and force a playoff run this coming year.

I agree, I don’t really want to spend for spending sake.

We need to address a couple areas , I’d say

-4c, in theory gaucher is the 4c of the future, so someone to kinda mentor him would be nice. Someone that can kill penalties and win faceoffs would be ideal

-top 4 dmen (preferably rhd), we have Luneau/solberg/moore and potentially hinds coming within the next 2 seasons… but going big here wouldn’t be bad, can always use extra dmen as trade bait down the line

-top 6 forward, preferably a shooter…. Sennecke hopefully fills that down the line

And I’d say we need a 3c of the future… stromes contract is almost up and idk that he’ll be extended to fill that role after

I really think the Ducks could be a borderline playoff club just by being average in the special teams and faceoffs categories, rather than dreadful at both. Have to get a veteran bottom six center who can be a key faceoff guy defensively and on the PK. Hopefully we'll see major special teams improvements just from replacing Cronin with Q and his new staff.

I agree,

And just the young guys like Leo mctavish zegras cutter continue to play how they ended the season, and the young dmen like minty and zellweger taking steps forward

I mean theoretically 'anyone' could be available...but probably at a price that you don't want to pay/makes your eyes water.

As part of a package with one of the young D for a truly elite player, possibly. Anything else, realistically no.

I woulda traded Terry as part of a package for rantanen

I think the Ducks GM stated no more pinching pennies as he is afraid of an offersheet for his RFAs. I think he has no desire to spend money…. Cheap bastard. But wants to plant the idea in GMs head that he is willing to spend to deter an offersheet.

That just reads like cope (or a solid, subtle enough to fool me joke). They have four years been very outspoken about being willing to spend to the cap when the team becomes competitive, even before they quadrupled their fortune.
