An optimistic view of our goaltending

I have the NHL channel, as such I see a broad array of games when I have time. Last night alone illustrated some unfortunate goaltending in multiple games and the Rangers who added some strong players (according to the experts) were run over for a touchdown by the very team the Leafs play tonight.

Everything is magnified in Toronto and Montreal in particular. It's why any Leaf goalie must have a very strong constitution to play in T.O and immediately forget the last goal.

To me that is key You are going to give up a bad goal from time to time, just don't let in the second. Once a goalies confidence is shattered they start thinking, the brain swirls and instincts are hurt by doubt and delay.

Opposition goalies let in a softies too. Yes, an early season Jack makes this team a threat for the Cup. It requires a team approach though, let's see forwards and D Men make life easier for them. Goalies shouldn't need to stand on their head to win games, that illustrates a failure of the team in front of him if he has to.

They've been missing some solid goaltending from our #1 and #2, but the team has to work as a unit to make the game simple for them.

I like the optimism.

I wish we knew at what point he started playing hurt but I choose to believe he was injured most of the disaster era.

I don't have a lot of choice in the matter. If we don't believe in Jack we may as well root for another team (except Boston).

The fact we didn't pay the Fluery price makes me think Dubas has some faith in his recovery. If he's wrong he will likely pay with his job and he's not an idiot.

I BELEAF IN CAMPBELL!

While I think Campbell is our obvious #1, and I hope he returns to his early season level of play or close to it, I have a sneaky suspicion that Wallgren is going to play some important minutes for us down the stretch and in the playoffs. I think he's going to surprise a team or two with how well he will play. The kid, on the outside at least, doesn't appear to get flustered, and he's not let in too many duds. This gives the team a chance to gain some confidence with him in net, and I think they are. While Jack is starting against Philly, and I'd give him the Lightning as well, I don't want to throw him in there and say the crease is yours. Allow him a chance to work himself back into it, test Wallgren against Florida on Wed., and the Sabres on the 13th. I'd also explain the process and reasoning so that neither goalie is flustered about why they're not starting, especially Jack as he does assume too much of the burden. Here's the schedule for the next couple of weeks, this is why, now fellas get out there and do your thing.

Of course, the best laid plans of mice and men...but I still think we have a tandem that has some quality goaltending in them, and a team that wants to help them do well.

let's see Marazek is hurt, Woll is hurt, Campbell is supposedly healthy but has been trash since December, Hutton is hurt

we are about 1.5 injuries away from literally being out of goalies.

What's there to be optimistic about in terms of goaltending?
