That was a good shift. Good puck control and strength along the boards. Hasn't really done that much against some of the better competition Canada has played.

His play without the puck has been fine, even really good at times.

I feel like if hes going to create offense, it's going to have to be by going to the paint at the NHL level. His hockey sense does nothing for me.

WJC's should never be used as your sole scouting tool, but Kings fans must be silently shitting bricks with the lack of production between him and Turcotte. Neither of them have resembled anything close to top line players in this tournament.

He's basically a defensive defenseman playing for an all star team. Would have been surprising if he looked great.

I agree with that point and had similar thoughts. I wanted to see the transition play and better skating which I think he brought in the 1st.

Well Turcotte is a real good bet to be a solid NHLer its just that he displays very little high end anything. Byfield i still think will be a beast he just will need more seasoning than Lafreniere or even Stutzle who will be giving instant gratification.

Defensively, he hasn't been bad. But on the breakout, he has ruined a few attacks.

He’s a defensive defenseman playing on an all-star team that is completely shellacking the opposition for 60 straight minutes.

And he’s hardly moved the puck poorly. Maybe compared to Byram and Drysdale. But Harley, Barron and even Guhle have misplayed the puck as well.

Schneider is a weak link for Canada. He fumbles the puck a lot, Russia should pressure him heavily, could lead to a few chances. Not happy about the Rangers picking Schneider in the first, wouldn't even have taken him in the first three rounds. He has no ability on the puck what so ever and very low IQ. He closed the gap and made a nice hit in his own zone, which makes you impressed. Then you watch him play hockey and know he won't ever be a regular NHL player. He is one of the worst players on the ice, both teams included.

I guess McDonagh was in that situation in the Olympics himself in 2014 and did well. Still, in general it's hard to be a guy that stands out when you have top 5-6 picks who are much stronger on offense in front of you it makes you look worse.

Agreed on Turcotte, disagree on Byfield.

If the software isn't up to par, it doesn't really matter how good the hardware is.

I don’t agree. He doesn’t dare to take many risks with the puck and ruins plenty of counter attacking opportunities by playing it safe. When he tries something, it never comes off. This brings back Dylan McIlrath PTSD.

Yeah plays nasty, two points plus 3 against one of the better teams in the tournament and he isn't even a third round pick.

This is idiotic

You're literally the only person seeing this and my guess is you're just trying to justify an opinion you already have.

He's a way more fluid/better skater than Dylan. Even if he "just" becomes a 2nd or even 3rd pairing right Dman but brings nastiness and an edge against the bigger forwards in the NHL that would be ok with me.

He wasn't my pick--I was standing pat and taking Brisson--but it's crazy to suggest he's a bad prospect or didn't belong in the first three rounds.

McIlrath couldn’t move, defend or move the puck as well as Schneider. He was drafted on athletics and potential. He couldn’t crack Canada’s top 8 two years after his draft, while Schneider in on the team’s second pair. Miller is a much more apt comparison for McIlrath.
