Movies: Amazon says next Bond movie end of 2027. NO star, NO Director and NO script.

I mean you’re entitled to your own opinion and all that, but I wouldn't say any of Craig's movies are worth putting in the top half of the franchise. They all had this monkeys-paw thing going on where individually strong elements were anchored by terribly bad plot/character choices. Casino had a great villain but wasted way too much time on the poker scene, Quantum had possibly the greatest character development of a Bond film but had a lousy villain and evil scheme, Skyfall's first half was the best we've seen of Craig only to devolve into "he wants to get caught" meets Home Alone, Spectre was so forgettable that the most memorable character was the henchman without any lines, and No Time to Die dragged out the plot to the point where you only figure out what the scheme was like 3/4ers of the way through the movie.

And you are entitled to yours as well. Casino Royale had excellent pacing regardless of the poker scenes which were not too time consuming at all. I have no idea what you are talking about with your home alone analogy in Skyfall.

Terrible plot/character choices?? Have you watched all the previous Bond movies? Name me 2 of Moore's and 2 of Brosnan's Bond movies that are better than Craig's best. Offhand, I remember most of Moore's movies being extremely cheesy.

I feel Casino Royale and Skyfall were very enjoyable for the most part. But Craig's other 3 Bond films are just tedious and borderline unwatchable to me. At least Pierce's films are watchable, silly fun. Die Another Day is one of my favorite "so bad it's good" flicks.

Casino is the best Bond movie there is, edging out FRWL. Follows the book very well. Skyfall was good and I think Quantum was underrated. Hated it at first but it really grew on me. The writers strike screwed that one over. I liked NTTD but Spectre is not good.

home alone = booby trapping the house to ensure 30 minutes of hijinks

Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are miles ahead of anything Craig has done, both have really intriguing plots, great villains, great girls, great henchmen, great set action pieces, good but not ostentatious gadgets. Moore's movies are indeed cheesy but Octopussy and Golden Gun are definitely better for my money, even if Golden Gun would be forgettable without Christopher Lee.

Some people here didn’t like NTTD, but they are pissing against the tide of popular opinion on that one.
 
Skyfall is probably my favorite of Craig's Bonds, but it's mostly elevated by Sam Mendes' direction and especially Roger Deakins' cinematography. Definitely the most beautifully shot of all Bond movies.

More info is starting to come through the UK media. Is sounds like for the past 2 years, Amazon and Brocolli group were at heads over who the next bond should be. It sounds like Brocilli had the person they wanted but Amazon would not finance a movie with the Brocolli's choice; they had their own list narrowed down to 2 and asked Brocolli to pick one and she would not do it.

Goldeneye is one of the best so no argument there, but Tomorrow Never Dies is down near the bottom for me. It’s entertaining but I don’t think it’s good. I have a soft spot for Octopussy but The Man With the Golden Gun is probably the most boring Bond movie there is. Very little happens.

If we’re talking Brosnan, The World Is Not Enough is underrated. That’s a good one. Too bad they followed it up with the disaster that was Die Another Day. Then again, we wouldn’t have gotten Casino Royale without that mess.

Moore's Bond films are just too goofy for my liking. I'm not against some well-placed humor in Bond movies, but in Moore's films it was downright cringe-worthy at times.
And I don't even think Moore was bad as Bond. I guess he just was unfortunate to play Bond at a time when the scripts were terrible.

It's a shame how Christopher Lee was wasted in The Man With the Golden Gun. He would've made a great Bond villain in a better movie.

Personally, I have a soft spot for the Timothy Dalton Bonds. Underrated, imo. They were darker and less "fun" and Dalton lacked a bit of that charisma of the other Bonds, but still good movies.

Dalton was fantastic and ahead of his time. I wish he got a third movie but having read the rumored plot of his potential third one, maybe it’s best it never happened.

I am of the school that actor who has played Bond, his movies should be judged against his movies and not others. As each Actor brought a different perspective. Like with Dalton, if you read the original bond books, description of bond and tone--he is the closest one to have the OG books. Flemming changed a lot when Connery started the role and adapted Connery's mannerisms for Bond

Everyone seems to be down on him but I like the Moore movies they were silly but fun. Guy had the suave and charisma. Second favourite Bond after Connery. Don't really like the Craig films other than Casino Royale. Prefer watching Jason Bourne or the Mission Impossible films if I want to rewatch a spy flick. Agree with the Dalton films they were pretty good too.

Moore/Bosman more suave and charming Bond who can talk their way out of trouble. Connery, Dalton, Craig more physically capable of fighting their way out of trouble.

They typically flip between the 2 styles. But, with Amazon in charge who knows which direction they want to go.

I really liked Tomorrow Never Dies, I'd say its both entertaining and good. Certainly it's become more and more relevant over time as we enter the post-truth era of the media. The Bond girls were given much greater character depth too, maybe more than any other women in the franchise. The car scene was fun without being too over the top and the motorcycle chase was a banger.

I might be overrating Golden Gun but I thought the setup was interesting and the third act had enough tension to keep it going. I wonder whether I mostly remember the scenes with Lee in the same way that you mostly remember Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs even though he's only on screen for 20 minutes or whatever it is.

It's been a long time since I've seen World is Not Enough, my memory of it was good without being great. I should watch it again. Die another Day was indeed bad, which is too bad because the idea of Bond as a POW was intriguing and Frost as the femme fatale was great.

I re-watched this lately and I had been lumping Tomorrow Never Dies with the dreck that is Die Another Day and TWINE from memory but it is much better than those 2 and closer to GoldenEye in terms of quality. Michelle Yeoh was such a great Bond girl and Stamper was a top-notch henchman. Vincent Schiavelli was great in his scene as well.
 
It's crazy how good OHMSS is when Diana Rigg is in the picture and how bad it is when she isn't (which is almost half the film). It's almost as if the screenwriters were on crack withdrawal for half their working hours.

Casino Royale is a good film, but not necessarily something you I would rewatch in its entirety.

Rene Mathis death scene from QoS is one of my favourite pet peeve scenes of all time.
 
In general, what makes a good Bond film is a good Bond villain.

There are obviously exceptions here and there but I feel it holds up fairly well.
 
Amazon Prime had a 24/7 Bond channel going for a while and it was great but it suddenly disappeared without warning a few weeks ago. Would like to see that return now that the Broccoli/Bezos conflict appears to have subsided for now. I want to be optimistic here, but the chances of total Bond Enshittification under Amazon are very high.
