If true, then it definitely should have been taken care of much earlier. Maybe AM decided not to tell Dubas what was going on during his summer again.
Ya, something sounds not right here.

orrrrr he tried a conservative approach and let it heal through the offseason he starts shooting again and it’s still bad?

That wrist injury against CGY ruined the best chance for 50 in 50 we've seen in quite a long time. Appears it never fully healed

He started off with 18 goals in his first 18 games. Then, got injured and scored 3 in 12 games (when he wouldn't shoot wristers or be on the half-wall during the PP). Following this he ended the season with 20 goals in 22 games. That middle stretch with the injury costed him

Hit 3 posts, had like 40 shots, led the forwards in takeaways, hits, blocked shots, he sucked.

Don't think you watched the series, he was easily the best forward for both teams

I think it was more like 6-8 posts and crossbars.

lol matthews was effectively playing by himself on that line with hyman and marner, ye...no wonder he had difficulty scoring.
Exactly. Price was 8 feet out of his net on every shot. 0 angle. Everyone knew 34 was shooting or passing to a non scoring threat

100% - he was unquestionably the best forward on either team, by a wide margin. He had a really, really good series other than his finish.

People keep lumping Matthews and Marner together in terms of the Habs series, and I can only imagine they didn’t watch the games. Marner legitimately had a pretty bad series, Matthews was a beast other than his finish … and certainly his wrist injury could have contributed to that.

Matthews was not the best forward in the series. Did people stop watching after game 4? He was great up until that point, but game 5,6 & 7 were so meh it was painful to watch. Best forward was Nylander or Denault for adding his name to the growing list of players to take part in blanking the "dynamic duo" in game clinching games.

Anyway glad to hear the surgery went well. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

surgery is always a last option. Especially when you have an elite player because you don’t know how his shot will be impacted after surgery. It takes a while to recover and get a feel for everything again so I can see why everyone (management, Matthews, coaching staff, medical staff) wanted to avoid surgery.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that our PP cost him 50 in 50. Not being able to score power play goals for 3 months is what really held him back

Not worried about this. Matthews is a generational talent and they always figure out a way. Can’t wait for the season to start only to be let down yet again… Haha

quite possible, even likely......but then surgery wouldn't have been "inevitable" as the post I quoted was suggesting.
