Panarin is a real issue. Panarin demands his linemates play off him and right now thats impossible. He stinks out there. Its totally neutering Trocheck and Lafreniere
Agree with this. Panarin just seems to be flinging the puck into random spots and stuck on pure east/west mode. Yes, we all know he can make opponents look dumb but he seems to be just going through the motions and it's really not helping Trocheck and Laf.

I see the Lafreniere excuses are starting up again.

Bedard is close to a PPG player playing with Bertuzzi and some guy.

Celebrini is close to a PPG player playing with another rookie and some guy.

Lafreniere plays with Panarin and we're going to do mental gymnastics until that's somehow a bad thing.

Split them up and we will see who the problem is. Laf should be with Mika and Smith. Maybe call up Othmann to play with Trocheck and Panarin if Kreider is missing time. That line isnt working this year because Panarin isnt having a career year.

The problem is the one that isn't a two-time first-team NHL all-star. Panarin has 40 points in 37 games in a down year.

You can concoct whatever scenario you want, but the bottom line is, Lafreniere isn't producing, like always.

Panarin is not why he isn't producing.

Well something is going on and it aint good. Might as well make that change and play Laf in his natural position to see if that gets him going.

I'm not sure if there's really regression, or if this is just him.
There are certainly things he could be doing better, and he's looking lost in limited minutes on a dysfunctional PP1, but he's on pace for around 50 points, and 50-60 seems to be what he is.

Looking into a bit further:
Last season 28 29 57
this season (projected) 19 27 46
last 82 games 27 27 54

So goals are down a bit but he appears to be passing up some nice chances and his line is a bit of a mess currently.

The annoying thing to me is that we still have no idea what kind of player he is away from Panarin

A large percentage of that is 5v5. He was not getting an real PP time until just recently. He is capable of more but we need to start putting our #1OA (who we recently extended to finish the decade) in better positions to succeed.

Yeah, he sucks.

7th and 9th are pretty meaningless picks in the grand scheme of all NHL picks.

I do find it pretty hard to believe that the Rangers had 1st and 2nd, they're both ass, and the Rangers had nothing to do with it.

Be that as it may, that ship probably sailed. I don't think you're transforming his game in D+5.

The whole thing was a massive botch job and here we are. The remnants of Gorton's rebuild amount to a decent second liner. It's over.

Give Laf a heart transplant from Bedard and he is an All-Star.

in the last season and a half he leads all Ranger forwards in 5v5 ice time and plays opposite wing to our best player. He's also 2nd in 5v5 scoring over that time.
Other than PP1 there's not much more we can do for him in terms of setting him up for success.

He's producing overall and is around 30th in 5v5 forward scoring, so unless we expect him to push up into Marner, Bratt, Matthews low to mid-70 point level he's doing fine without PP points, it's now a question of whether he can sustain that and his recent lack of points is an anomaly, and what can he do without Panarin on his other side?

We're gonna make the playoffs

It's never been in doubt. The East is terrible even before you get into all the wish casting on our end. Ive been a Ranger fan long enough to know we are going to be in it until the last day of the season. There will be no tank for better or worse.

He was our best skater against Florida in the ECF 6 months ago. Im not giving up on a 23rd year who we know is capable of much more. Panarin is on borrowed time in NY.
