Out of all the Lafreniere excuses, "he's been hurt by Panarin" has to be the worst.

He couldn't crack .5 PPG before playing with Panarin.

Panarin made that kid 52 million dollars.
For one season, when it worked. Then in the post season, the opposition pressured more, stood up more, and they wilted. This season Panarin is noticeably slower with his feet and hands, and it just magnifies Laf's tendencies to play a finesse game. Panarin plays a slow cooker type of game, and that hurts Laf because he doesn't move that fast to begin with. He stops moving his feet watching Panarin and the puck and he's done.

What about the three years before Panarin when we had the same complaints?
What about them? Again it was last season where it clicked. It was fresh. Opponents now know well enough what they like to do.

We have a large sample of him being dogshit without Panarin, that's what about them.

Spin the Lafreniere wheel of excuses again because the Panarin one sucks.

Why does the Panarin Theory suck? You talk like I'm the only one here making note of this. I will say, add Fox to that theory because those guys cycled low-high-low a lot as a fivesome, and when it worked, lanes, time and space opened up. That hasn't happened this season, due also in part to Fox being less effective for whatever reasons that you will inevitably say are dumb.

I never said you were the only one sniffing lead paint around here.

Lafreniere hasn't done a single f***ing thing in the NHL that Panarin wasn't on the ice for.

It's objectively wrong that his struggles are Panarin's fault and it's not owed equal credence to a coherent argument.

I never said it was only Panarin's fault that Laf has regressed, by the same token. That Panarin has affected Laf's game is entirely accurate. Laf can certainly stop doing stupid shit by himself though.

If he was really anything, that wouldn't have an effect.

That's kind of my point with Lafreniere and all the excuses, and all the "what if," and all of the attempts to explain it.

Star players are foolproof and excel independently.
It's my fault.

I'd been mulling it over since late last season, but after he signed his extension I made up my mind and went and bought a Lafreniere jersey. It was only a matter of time for him to start disappointing after I did that.

This just reminds me of the eternal search for RW to unleash the Kreider/ Mika Line. That was never the primary issue.

Could be and clearly something is up with Kreider. All the more reason to start moving all responsibility away from our aging 34 year olds and onto our 25 year old core players.
Just want to reiterate, this has to be the guiding principle. Hand over the reins. Stop deferring to the vets. Obviously easier said than done and the reason guys usually need to get traded before they accept evolving from cog to role player.

As much as I would love to take the keys away from the old timers, I don't think our kids are good enough to get it done.

I get being frustrated with Panarin as he's been flashing some of the really poor habits from two years ago, but for most of this season he's been the only player on this team that is consistently dangerous with the puck, other than maybe Chytil.

With Laf, we can argue whether the Rangers stunted him or if he was really never good enough, or different gradients of a combination of the two, but at this point in his fifth season as he's pacing for like 50ish points, I'm over trying to diagnose the issue and ready to face reality

I am desperate to be wrong, but I just don't see a star player

You are to be commended for falling on the sword here.
