Alvin on Pettersson: He needs to mature and understand that there are certain expectations.. need to face the music when things don't go well

I have been following off ice comments by Pettersson since his second contract signing, he has been consistent in his desire to play on a winner, in the playoffs annually and for the cup.
He has always had a wait and see approach even prior to signing this last one.

It was a series of circumstances that got him to sign when he did.
The team was hot, close to first in the league and management put the pressure on for him to sign and in truth that group did look like they could maintain and improve. Nobody doubts management had been trying to get him signed for months and had the vault door open, that contract probably sat there for 6 months waiting to get him signed.

Allvin's statement could have a few different reasons behind it, no doubt EP is happy
BUT
The coach's desire;
All Euro's playing for Tocchet going back to Arizona have been unhappy, asked for trades or been jettisoned at great cost off his teams. The Nux that year had a great line playing together in EP, Kuz and Mikheyev, they were playing at a #1 line then Tocchet dismantled it and they played all over the place, up and down in the line up with various players, lower icetimes and often criticized for standard issues. Kuz was only a second year player. A quick list, OEL, Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Zadorov, Podkolzin, Hoglander right now, Gologski, Dvorak, Keller, Hall were either jettisoned or asked for trades. the cost for ridding the team of OEL, 8 years of high buyout costs, Kuzmenko, 1rst, 2nd, AAA RHD prospect, Mikheyev 2 years retention, nothing for Podkolzin and now the last two skilled Euro's Pettersson and Hoglander. Tocchet often refered Zadorov as a 4/5 dman but obviously he wasn't but enough to get fans to accept that 5 mil instead of 4.75 mil was too much and now it comes out they didn't even get around to making an offer, they ran out of time. 4 GMs ran out of time, beleive that?
Maybe Allvin has attached his star to Tocchet and what Tocchet wants hence the drama that now has fans in acceptance of an EP trade.

His mistake of forcing the signing.
There was a fair amount of pressure to get EP to sign this contract when he did, essentially Allvin played on EP's desire to win and he struck when the team was at it's highest. The rumor of a trade and giving EP a deadline to sign or else or be traded to an even stricter task master, Brind'amour to a team without anyone he knew. That would be a strong incentive to sign.

Pettersson's refusal to accept the way the contract is being enforced as bondage and loss of independance. For a player that wants to win forcing him to perform as the key player on a team that regressed as much as this management group has decimated the team might be enough for him.

All Allvin's statements will put any reasoning for a trade on Pettersson not the team and especially not on Tocchet.

I guess any reasoning for this statement could be how it has been viewed, Pettersson being a brat.
Or Allvin choosing to side with Tocchet and Miller.
Nothing very positive for player or team though.
Yeah, it does sound like management politics with the expectation of "losing" the upcoming trade, if you trade a player like EP, you'll rarely if ever bring back a player of the same caliber/potential. But with the callout, it will put the onus on EP in the eyes of, maybe, enough fans that management will be able to stave off some criticism.

sounds a bit like mackinnon. miller would be great in colorado. maybe the avs try something around middlestadt+
Haha, McKinnon? The actual captain of the Avs? The guy who lead his team to a Stanley Cup? That guy is like Miller who is a well known jerk where ever he goes and has lead the Canucks to embarrassment?

Some winning last year for the Canucks put some makeup on that pig of a dressing room. But here the Canucks right back to where they were 2 years ago with their management calling their team out in the media again because the team is underperforming. Good leaders elevate their team not destroy it.

Legit question, why has EP been getting so much flack for what seems like a couple seasons? Is he lackadaisical or afraid to get dirty?

Also, it seems that Miller is the only constant in this Canucks soap opera. I remember they traded Horvat and kept Miller, why is it now Miller vs Petterson?
He’s been a ghost signing his new 11 mil contract and from the sounds of it he mopes around and whines behind the scenes

They were a really bad line. They played themselves off the team. Mikheyev in particular looked really bad after his injury the year prior. Kuzmenko is a cherry-picker with no forecheck or backcheck.
Somehow after trading both of those guys EP still wound up with 89 points playing with 4th liners.

This is the gist of it for me as well. It looks like Tocchet is on Miller's side in this conflict, and, with this statement, Alvin is as well. So, that means Miller is staying put, and it's up to Pettersson to either please all of them, or get shipped out. I am expecting a trade to happen before July 1.

Red Wings get: F Elias Pettersson

Sabers get: F Marco Kasper, LHD Albert Johansson, F Vladimir Tarasenko, Red Wings 1st round pick.

Canucks get: F Dylan Cozens and G Cam Talbot.

C'mon let's get a three-banger trade going!
Lmao

Maybe before Petey signed the extension and ghosted himself.

I really don't care who Tocchet's type of player is because Tocchet also played on the same team as Mario Lemieux when he won the cup, and Gretzky in LA.
I'm sure Mario Lemieux and Gretzky aren't Tocchet type of players but I'd rather have those guys than Tocchet.
Some of these guys need a reminder of their role - motivate your teammates by playing a certain way, or motivate your players by carrying a certain demeanour.
If they aren't motivating their teammates, they aren't doing a core part of their job.

why do these dramas always happen I Vancouver?
It would be a lot easier to accept if they made the playoffs and had success there more often.

Or if it was the result of something more positive then negative like excessive competitiveness

Otherwise this stuff hurts

Here is the full quote of what I want to discuss without title character limitations:

I want to discuss this quote outside of any trade speculation. What the hell is any NHL GM doing saying comments like this to the media, nevermind a player you just had commit 8 years to your organization and you decided to make a top 5 paid player? NEVERMIND a CANADIAN market GM?

What the hell could possibly be the goal here with saying this aside from adding fuel to a speculative tire fire in the room. What I want to know is, did Alvin just help create a Drury situation? I can't see that quote being popular with players even if they have problems with him. And I imagine if he is now forced to make a trade with him for poor value that will be seen even worse.

Agreed, and doesn’t it just call attention to the fact that he maybe gave the kid too much money? He’s basically saying “I can’t evaluate character.”

In retrospect it should have raised some alarms when Pettersson threatened to not sign unless the team did well. Not a guy you can trust when things get tough.

I can see it now, Petey gets benched for the third period of the last game before the TDL, walks over to Aquilini (Canucks owner) and says this is my last game, a La Patrick Roy

They started the year getting more points than the Miller, Boeser, whoever line 5 on 5. Most of Boeser's goals were PP goals.
Why only Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Podkolzin who only got 30 minutes of NHL icetime, even Hoglander only got just over 11 minutes a night and now Brannstrom sits

This could be quite a list of Euro's dispatched.
Pettersson - on the cusp
Hoglander - in the doghouse for two years and a constant trade rumor.
Brannstrom - trade for him and now benched
Mikheyev - one of the fastest players a good fit with Kuz and EP, also one of the best forecheckers
Kuzmenko - traded with the treasue chest for a rental
OEL - league record buyout and then goes on to be key player for two teams.
Podkolzin - not as big but traded away for beans and getting icetime with a top line
Zadorov - touted as a bottom pairing dman by Tocchet and Allvin and not offered a contract
Lindholm - critiqued by Tocchet and not re-signed (IMO okay).

All have been criticized by Tocchet and that is just the Canucks see Arizona.

How is this aspect of Tocchet's bias not talked about? We aren't rednecks up here but there it is for all to see but never talked about by their media.

A coach can make a player look good or bad. But Kuz and EP had chemistry and Mikheyev was JUST getting over major knee surgery. Sometime the whole is better than the individual parts in hockey called chemistry and they had it BUT they didn't play dump and pray hockey, Tocchet's style.

If you followed the general consensus of EP's play you know his game has tanked for his level for 80 games including the playoffs..

As a rookie playing with EP and Mik they had Kuz - 39 goals 74pts, EP - 39 goals 102 pts, Mik- injured preseason camp 46 games - 13 goals, 28pts
I don't know what you think a good line looks like but that ain't bad

Maybe going back as far as Horvat being traded, Miller was Tocchets guy from day one,

The possible solution is bringing in someone who can unify the dressing room. Hughes as captain is too young for the role, not his fault.
