How do you not tell a kid hey we’re going to sit you tonight. Don’t take it personal. To not say anything at all and just put it on the line-up sheet outside the locker is terrible communication skills.

What Gallant should have said today......

"The Strome playing decision along with the scratching of Kakko was entirely on me. It was my decision and it didn't work out. It falls entirely on my shoulders. I wanted to give the team a spark and that's why I wanted to get Hunt in there after we lost three games in a row. It has nothing to do with Kakko, he has been working hard in practice and giving it all for them team. Strome tested his injury in warm ups and wanted to gut it out because he wanted to help the team."

This is what Gallant could have said to diffuse everything and take ownership of the situation while shielding the players.

people are reading into this way too much. guys get scratched all the time without being told why, these guys are professional athletes not 9 year olds. Kakko was pretty bad in game 5 and i'm sure he knows that he was without it being explained to him.
How to spot the old curmudgeon in the room....

Sorry, leadership/management 101. Can't expect your subordinates to improve or fix their mistakes by not communicating with them. Takes 10 seconds to say "Hey Kaap, love you kid but we need more from you if we are going to go anywhere. You are sitting this game for fresher legs"

Bam, done. Now he knows where he stands and now the onus is on the player to light a fire under his ass. As opposed to saying nothing, it could feel personal and not performance based. Then the player has an open door to "why should I give a f*** if he doesn't give a f***"

Not going to shed any tears for Strome. The Rangers would re-sign him if the money works. Strome just has to choose what's most important for him--and it sounds like he already has.

I think the better question to ask Turk is why he felt Kevin Rooney deserved to see ice at all.

being a caddy incase Strome couldn't go/finish a game is not a good enough reason. That decision very well may have cost us game 5. You could have done so many other teams including just shifting Copp over and playing the f*** out of your top guys or allowing Motte or Goodrow to spot in occasionally.

What does PP1 have to do with being a top 6 player?

Other than Strome, who would they replace on PP1? I think Laf replaces Strome on PP1 and Kakko slides into Laf's spot on PP2.
It doesn’t but I think it’s a big deal at this point. If we resign Copp you think Laf goes over him on pp1? We shall see

Strome signs a 1 yr deal. Gets hip surgery and LTIR until next May and joins the team for the playoffs. That's how you win championships.
Honestly that's a potentially great idea for both parties. Let's him heal and then get paid more than what he would get now.

But it's in our best interest to move on.

No I agree, he should've talked to him, but it's still not a big deal. it would be a bigger deal if this were the regular season IMO

He will be targeted from here on out.

He must get stronger. We can’t afford to lose him
Which is why I posted in another thread I believe Lindgren, Jones and Nils will all be gone by the end of the 2023 season.

Shows how incredible Fox is being able to take the beating. But to have 3-4 guys like that on the back end won't work out in the playoffs. Jones and Nils can fetch us something good and Robertson can hopefully be a steady defender like Lindgren.

I'm not sure if everybody else picked up on this in the interview videos but just about everybody when talking about the young players developing this postseason said fil, laf, key. I was paying attention to try to see if kakko got mentioned with these players and I didn't hear anybody bring him up. Just an odd omission

That's too logical bro, apparently this coach doesn't have to say anything to justify his decisions

I'm all for LTIRing a player next season.

But we don't really have any injuries long-term enough to justify a whole Kucherov season off.

:sarcasm:

Means he is willing to accept a smaller role on a team he believes can win.
No disrespect to Copp but nobody is breaking down his door to play 20 minutes nevermind 25.

Remember when we signed Holik to do exactly that?

Desperate teams do dumb things.
