Something I hope, but will not, get addressed is the playoff schedule. It's not just a Ranger thing. The idea of 20 playoff games in 40 days is insanity at any measurable level. Win in less than 7? Okay. But when there is very little between teams (6 of the 8 first round series went 7), it is a lot easier said than done.

The NBA Finals are scheduled over 18 days.

The NHL Finals are scheduled over 16 days. Had the Rangers won Saturday night, the Finals would have been scheduled over THIRTEEN days.

Nobody can tell me that the NBA playoffs are more physical and more taxing than the NHL playoffs. Rarely does an NBA first round series go 7 games. Also, those NBA schedules sometimes put multiple days between first and second round games. NHL? Not this year. NHL teams were going every other night for a month and a half. Have to go back over 30 years to find a schedule this compacted other than the bullshit the '14 Rangers faced with Pittsburgh.

It is crazy, but definitely impacted by the Olympic/COVID break. Should be better moving forward, but this is the trade off w NHL participating in the Olympics.

It is rather insane that the schedule basically calls for teams to play every other day. its a massive advantage to get earlier series won quickly, as we saw with the Rangers being gassed by the ECF. The reasoning for this always was NBC needing the NHL tobe finished by a certain date so as to not overlap with their other sports, but im not sure thats still relevant.

Personally, I would change the schedule for all teams to have an extra day off for travel. Would also help the ratings to be able to stagger the games in the early rounds so theres not 4 games happening at once.

There's been Olympic participation before. There's never been a season where the playoffs start on May 2.

The problem is the regular season was not as compacted as it has been with an Olympic schedule, AND they gave all the teams that week long bye during the season.

With those things in place, the drop dead date should not have been June 30. Granted hockey games on Canada Day and Independence Day are not optimal either, the schedule should have been pushed out a week or two to at least July 7 to accommodate Conference Final and Stanley Cup Final travel and breaks.

I honestly believe more of it has to do with Disney's TV contract than anything else.

We probably wont hear from Drury. He hasnt been around all season until they made the conf finals and it was mandatory he take questions.

During the trade deadline every GM was interviewed, took questions and had no problem with it. Drury wasnt available. I see the same thing happening here

This should be a juicy breakup day. Gallant will undoubtedly have to respond on the Kakko scratch.

And how about the draft and FA signing period? I don't know the league-players deal that's in place, but I reckon there's something in there that prevents at least the draft from happening while the Cup Final is still in play. Draft and FA signing period both would've been pushed back a week too. And 2022-23 schedule opens in Europe, so those dates are set in stone. There seems to be no good way around the schedule compaction.
