Forget Boeser, Garland, or Miller, Vancouver can get under the cap by trading Elias Pettersson (#40 of course) to us ;). We'll help them improve their defense and throw higher round draft picks at them, and we'll get a bona fide super star that just scored 100 points.

Do Swedes like saunas a lot like Finns? Maybe talk to EP about the wonderful saunas our Finns have! Oh, and Fast is a Swede too.

Waddell and company should get it done. Sounds super easy. In all seriousness, who wants Miller, Boeser, or Garland? They weren't traded at the deadline.
Re: EP Depends on whether Toccet has convinced them the team is now highly competitive under his leadership and EP is a mandatory keeper (lol, plus he’ll have a fit if EP is traded).

Plus, they will undoubtably want a deal similar to Fl-Calgary transaction with big assets going each way. Who would Canes trade?

Btw: nothing to do with trade assets but if we had Freddie healthy last year we would have definitely beaten the Rags and perhaps even Tampa too. Oh well.

Would love to see Petey as a Cane. He is already back to training and working out after his Dubai vacay. Looked like he was doing the daredevil excursions.

That's the big question: who would they trade for a superstar? I know it was under different circumstances given his lackluster year last season, but the Canes were trying to trade Necas. Maybe they would for EP? I'd prefer:

TT + Skjei or Pesce + the opposite handed defensive prospect of the roster defenseman we traded (so if Skjei is traded, we trade Morrow since he's a RHD and Skjei is a LHD which means Nikishin has an open slot in the roster and vice versa) meaning one of Nikishin or Morrow, and the 2023 1st round pick. Or simply put:

TT + Skjei/Pesce + Morrow/Nikishin + 2023 1st round pick +

That's a pretty good starting point IMO, and we're a good trading partner since Vancouver has needed help on the blue line for a long time, and we have A LOT of defensive depth. Drury and additional draft picks would be available if needed to complete the trade; which likely would be the case.

In this scenario that TT is traded for an elite 1C, we then try to sign a decent-good winger from free agency and hopefully manage to get someone respectable given the slim pickings for FA this summer.

Pettersson
Aho
KK
Staal/Drury

Looks like dream mode center depth.

I agree. Ever since last year, I thought a healthy Andersen easily would make us win against the Rangers, and with his Vezina regular season performance last year before his injury, it probably wouldn't have even gotten to a game 7. Tampa wouldn't have been as daunting either.

Vancouver is going to want good, young roster players (with high potential) in return for EP, just I would want for Aho.

You replace TT with Necas, you're much closer to a 1C package.

TT is a rental now and that's what his value will be. If he goes, it's likely for another rental in a change of scenery deal since Carolina doesn't need to add him into a major deal to be cap compliant.

I'd hope Drury would be enough with everything else in that package (with possibly 2024's 1st round pick on top of 2023); especially given his impressive performance this year with his limited TOI.

I'd prefer to keep one of our better forwards (Necas) if possible before breaking the figurative piggy bank.

The deals with TT and/or Drury don't make me cringe; most likely means it's not close to enough.

Necas is a nice start but we don’t have the pieces to acquire Vancouver. If morrow was already on the roster and looked like he could be a top 4 guy, we could have a chance. Our late picks and B prospects aren’t going to interest Vancouver
I don't think any team has enough pieces to acquire all of Vancouver's team.

And this doesn't change the fact that our forwards have 0 5v5 goals in 14 periods this series and we have only scored 3 goals over 3 games in total. By this standard, their offensive attack had been twice as good as ours.
I do t remember the exact numbers but the top 3 goalies in saves above expected are
3 Freddy somewhere around 5
2 Shesterkin some where around 6
1 Bob * f***ing 17*

Thats not all the shorthanded Canes struggling to score that is all time goaltending by Bob right now

ehhh our xGF has always far, far outpaced our actual scoring this year. Its not at all surprising that a goalie going on a heater has seen his numbers absolutely balloon against our offense. I think at one point our xGF vs GF difference was the largest in the league, and it wasn't even close to 2nd.

They have been pretty good throughout the playoffs, those numbers are not just against us. Thats against the Bruins, Leafs, and 3 games against us.

I get what you are bitchi g about need need more offense but if can't take a step back and see the only reason this series isn't in favor of us right now is Bob then I'm not sure what to tell you.

I don't give a shit what happened in previous series, I only care about what we are doing. Outside of 5 games against an analytically terrible NJ defense and AHL caliber goaltending, our scoring in this playoff run has aligned with how bad it was in the regular season, and its going to be the end of our run in what might be our best shot at a cup with this core.

It absolutely must improve this summer, we cannot continue to ignore the issues that have been staring us in the face for a couple years now. We have elite level defense, upper tier goaltending, upper tier forechecking and shot creation, and bottom quartile shot selection and shot placement.

You do realized we were just a hair under 3 goals a game against the Isle right? The offensive woes are nowhere near what you make them to be and are in fact due to the goalies and D we are playing against

I could see us going big game hunting for a top line forward using either Necas or Turbo as the centerpiece of the trade. Heck, for the right player, they could both be included

Not sure teravainen brings that much back seeing as he’s on an expiring deal and had a down year but could be wrong. I was more of the idea they either flip him for a player or a draft pick and use that money to sign someone else

They don’t need the money from TT to make a big move. They don’t need the assets to do it either.

I think they own rental Teravainen unless someone wants to make a change of scenery move with another expiring deal (add a pick to get Tom Wilson and let Turbo set up Ovechkin?)

This exactly. I think we package this years first and possibly next years at the draft for the right guy, but this team has the setup to go all in next season. I think that ends up being exactly what we do and finally cash in some of those futures.

At a certain point, they owe it to someone like Burns to go all in. Its pretty bullshit on his behalf they wasted this kind of opportunity for him with $10m in cap space at the deadline and brought in a terrible winger and a PP specialist who kind of sucks at 5v5 defensive play. He may never get this kind of opportunity again

Wish they had a chance to bid on Nino, but he was gone before they walked away from the Meier sweepstakes.

I wonder what they would have done had they walked away from Meier earlier.
