The Coyotes first NHL regular season game was in Hartford…close the circle despite it making no actual sense.

I know I’ve asked this trivia question before here, but I watched it live and I have to keep repeating it so I dont forget:

Who took the first Coyotes penalty against in team history in Hartford?

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody's around, does it make a sound?

I'm don't think the timing works, but I'm still convinced the answer is Shane Doan.

So where is the Svech signing thread? Is it done and they are just waiting to announce it when training camp opens so the media bu.p from it isn't lost in the dog days of summer?

This would be a great week to re-sign Svech.

I've always felt a top 6 winger trade was pie in the sky unless they pay someone to take the Gardiner contract, which doesn't seem likely to me. So after the press conference, and a pretty official sounding "we like our group" what rookie do you guys think has the best shot at earning a spot?

I think the top six will be the same as last season. If any trades do shake out I imagine they're probably looking for an upgrade on Jordan's wing. Or potentially letting a rookie try and earn that spot? With Jordo getting the bulk of d-zone draws it seems like a tough spot for a rookie to slot in. IMO Drury and Rees probably have the best chances.

Gardiner will not be paid by the Hurricanes next year. Book it.

Either it's a LTIR situation as @TheRillestPaulFenton has said repeatedly, or they "pay" via picks and prospects. But I'm pretty sure that the Borg is not interested in avoidable dead money when the window is open and there are so many tradeable assets in the system.

Short of including Gardiner with a guy like Cotton as part of a package, I want no part of Tarasenko. I just don’t think he’s worth the risk, unless you get him dirt-cheap.

They LW I want them to go out and get, if possible, is DeBrusk.

Or, just let Bokk, Jarvis, Drury, Rees, Suzuki fight to the death in camp for the last top 9 spot

Honestly I'd rather get Phil the hot dog crushing thrill than Tank.

Give me Tarasenko if an inside-the-conference Eichel trade is unrealistic. Yeah, I know he has that shoulder injury, but that guy is an absolute beast if he's healthy. At his best, that could be yet another Trocheck-like addition into the forward group. We have the massive prospect capital to put an Eichel-worthy trade package together without mortgaging the future, and Tarasenko will cost far less than that. Just do it.

I wonder who the equivalent risk/reward deal would be for a Rask/Nino style deal.

Rask/Gardiner? ;)

It honestly depends on how much money Carolina would be willing to take back.

Okposo and Lucic are $6M cap hits for the same 2 seasons.
Ladd is $5.5M for 2 years.
Drouin is $5.5M for 2 years, but it's doubtful Gardiner would waive to go to Montreal.
Dadonov is $5M for 2 years.
Connolly is $3.5M for 2 years.
Loui Eriksson is $6M for 1 year.
Max Domi would probably require some additional real assets, but is $5.3M for 1 year.
DeBrusk would require additional real assets, but is $3.675M for 1 year. Could even acquire him without having to pay Boston to take Gardiner.
Clutterbuck is $3.5M for 1 year.

I doubt the Borg would be interested in taking on a contract longer than Gardiner's. That said, there aren't as many forward options as you might think who would be similar hit and contract length.
