Tennis: All Purpose Tennis Thread XVII -- 2025 schedule in Post #1

Felix defeats Bublik in three sets, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. Massively entertaining match. When Bublik is interested, he is one of the funnest players in the game to watch. Because of a rare and somewhat controversial ballboy interference call that favoured FAA in the first set breaker, there was not much love lost between the two the rest of the match. The more fit player eventually pulled away in the final set.

Felix now in the quarters at Dubai against Marin Cilic. Cilic has a 3-1 lead historically.
Will be a close match. Felix won the last match in Australia.

That was a fun match! They were fine at the end and didn’t have a salty handshake. The underhand serve after the ballboy incident was hilarious!

Kind of a more workmanlike win for Felix today as opposed to the beauty that he and Bublik played. But he should get to the finals now. His excellent year keeps getting better and better.

Denis also in the SF.

Early, of course, but Felix sits 3rd in the race and Denis 8th. Great start to the season for them.

IW starts next week, so that's a big one. Hopefully they can continue it there.

Felix makes the final with a three-set win over Halys. Four matches, four three-set wins. So he is not only playing very good tennis, he is playing clutch tennis, too.

I went to bed during Denis’ first set when he was down a break and thought he was done, so I was pleasantly surprised to see he won. And Felix was amazing vs Halys.

Felix will face his old pal Tsitsipas in the final. Tsitsipas holds a 6-3 H2H record. They haven't faced each other since Paris in 2023.

I might follow the same advice tonight. ADF won the first set breaker against Shapo with both players guilty of error-prone, dreary, uninspired tennis. A chore to sit through.

Easy win for Tsitsipas, 3-3. Felix played quite well and it looks like he is in fabulous shape, but the four three-setters earlier in the week may have taken something out of his legs today.

Tough one for Felix and Shapo but the good news is, their tennis game appears to be improving.
Gaining confidence and the mental side of competing is so important and in Shapo's case he desperately needs a rebuild! Things are looking up!

Indian Wells predictions:

Zverev over Rune
Ruud over Paul

Rublev over Draper
Alcaraz over De Minaur

Ruud over Zverev
Alcaraz over De Minaur

Alcaraz over Ruud

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't see Tsitsipas, Medvedev or Djokovic getting to the quarters which means all three likely get to the quarters. *sigh*
