Man I wanted Price back, but no way with that contract!

That's nuts. That deal will look really bad in about the last 3 years.

Boston will be good next year though, going to be tough to repeat as AL East champs..

I don't think it's insane (relatively speaking, here). I mean, that's what everyone was saying it would take to re-sign him when the season ended. Maybe it's a couple extra million, but I clearly remember it being said that it will take 200-220 million over 7-8 years. Red Sox won the money war.

I would have rather signed him than J.A. ****ing Happ. Total fail by new management not to go out and get an ace, clearly our single biggest need. I don't buy this "build the team for the long term" bs that Shapiro is pushing. This team is stacked and ready to win now, you sign that ace (Grinke, Zimmerman, I don't care who) and you plow through the league this year before the league's best offence disbands.

I've been a pissed off blue bird fan these last few weeks for the lack of that much needed signing. I don't blame AA for leaving, the managerial philosophy has totally changed and is no longer simply to win. I get that you can't purge the cupboards too much, but it was already done, AA is a pitching draft master, and all we needed was some money to sign the big fish pitcher. I also find it disgusting that we are keeping the same payroll with the millions upon millions of extra dollars pumped into the Rogers coffers due to the huge surge last year. But at least it's not going down.

Yeah the Jays were never going to sign him at that term. I think they would have given him more per year over a shorter term, but they knew Price would never go for that. I prepared myself the day the season ended that he was ending up on the Yankees or Red Sox. So it's not really a shock to me.

I'm not thrilled by the Happ signing either, but he should be alright. I won't lose sleep over that one.

I do hope they go out and get a second tier ace but it seems that may be a long shot too, they at least need to find an inning eater to replace Buerle.

It will be interesting to see what they do, they will alienate a lot of people if they regress next season. I'm hopeful they know what they are doing!

Shapiro's philosophy is generally to win the division with offence, and get into the playoffs where "anything can happen". That is not the right way to win championships. We need another pitcher, at least a #2, as you said, if we aren't getting an ace.

What's the matter with committing 7 years? Other high-end winning teams are doing it. It's a calculated risk to take, like anything else. That's how you land the big fish. But because it's the Jays, oh no we can't sign anyone for more than 5 years? Beaston is gone, that should be out the window. Alex would have had the balls to do it. But I guess it still comes down to Ed Rogers.

Prospect wise, we can't afford to, and will not, give up more guys at the deadline to bring in another pitcher, especially when AA already got reamed out by Shaprio for giving away too many prospects to get Price. Shapiro was AGAINST acquiring Price. That's all I need to hear to formulate my opinion of his managing style. And he isn't even the GM.

Shaprio is ensuring we are a good team for the long term. I get it. But we have a wide open window to WIN now, and we aren't taking advantage of it with getting the final big piece of the puzzle.

Yeah I agree with most of what you say, and I wish they would just have backed up the truck for him but it was never going to be that way.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, as he does seem committed to keep everyone but Price.

Pitching will need to be addressed if they can't work it out internally but I have faith. I haven't given up hope on Hutchison and the young guys (Osuna, Sanchez etc.. ) should be that much better this year.

Like I said, it could really blow up in their face should the Jays go back to mediocrity. I think they know that. They seem to be committed to bringing back everyone else at least.

So I'm watching the Superbowl, and I can't believe how stupid some players are. Denver gets Carolina deep in their own zone to 4th down, and Talib takes a 15 yard taunting penalty for getting in the face of the opposing player, giving the Panthers a 1st down. I get that everyone is jacked up, but holy moly, calm down.

The taunting penalty was so dumb.

I am cheering for Manning. I don't even know why. I haven't cared about the NFL really since the Bills were in the Superbowl. I cheered for the Pats because they were so awesome.

I think I want Peyton to win because he is so done. So old. I think he can have some greatness left and be the broken down winner Gretzky or Jordan never were.

How awesome was caring about the Grey Cup and the baseball playoffs? I find it so hard to care about the Superbowl.

The same idiot Talib just got a facemask penalty

I think the Panthers story is a cool one and wouldn't be mad if they won, but I would really like Peyton to win this one. The fact that his so average brother Eli has more rings than him is ludicrous.

lol and a third for Talib. This guy is a tool.

Ya.. this is basically the first NFL game this year I've totally been mildly invested in, but I guess that's what happens when I don't have one specific team to cheer for and have no cable anymore (jumping around from game to game every Sunday is awesome).

But then I love running QBs.

Hard to know who to cheer for.

Cam newton is a young up-and-comer, and has plenty more opportunities to win (although you never know if you ever get back to the dance again). This game is about Peyton's legacy, as media driven as it is.

Was hoping for a 10-3 Denver half lol...
Now need to hope for another set of my squares to make sense

I still don't care. I just want a close game. Terrible bad calls on the penalties. The first one was just wrong on the replay. He clearly caught it.

13-10 Carolina half would make me very happy, now that I think about it

What are these squares you speak of?

It's gambling isn't it.

Yes. My one bit of gambling a year. Makes the superbowl interesting.

Basically, 10x10 board. Pick a square or two.
They randomly draw numbers from 0-9 and the teams also randomly picked for axes.

So then each quarter, you get a fraction of the pot based on the last digit of the score of the game.

My numbers are;
Denver 9, Carolina 2
Denver 0, Carolina 3
Denver 4, Carolina 8
Denver 9, Carolina 1

So first quarter ended as a 0, 0..So no luck for me there.

Coldplay was wretched as expected, but at least Uptown Funk made it interesting.

But still thinking this is one of the weakest halftime shows in recent memory

I think we could have all predicted that this would happen when Coldplay was named. Lame selection.

But Bruno and Queen B were great.

Dominant performance by Denver's D yet again. They picked the right MVP - Von Miller was unstoppable all game. He and DeMarcus Ware made the Panthers offensive line and Newton look horrible...

I actually thought that was a pretty decent game. Seeing two dominant defenses make mincemeat of the QBs? That's fun!
