Team has too many holes to be drafting goalies before the 5th round is my main gripe.
We've used 24 draft picks in the top 100 picks the last 3 drafts and 13 in the first 2 rounds....pretty sure we could afford to use ONE on a goalie prospect. You can argue we should have targetted a different goalie, but to say we should not have drafted ANY is absurd. One of the to many holes we have is goaltending until proven otherwise. We also have 8 more picks (so far) in the next 2 drafts in the first 2 rounds.

I've seen lots of negative comments about the Gajan pick.

Why? He's a 20-year old playing his first season in the NCAA.
Give him time to develop, geez.

Simple really

We spent a very valuable pick (35th overall) to select him while passing up a bunch of notable prospects who currently are surging/improving as prospects all while Gajan stock has only diminished since draft and this season he has fallen into depths with his struggles and lost starting gig

Also, several of the other goalies we passed on are thriving and looking like blue-chip prospects in net

So, it looks like Hawks reached for G and reached for wrong one at that

I didn't say don't draft any goalies, just not with a pick in rounds 1-4.

We've got solid goaltending. Both are UFA's.

Drafting goalies is stupid unless they're ++.

I agree, drafting goalies is voodoo and a tough call on 18 year olds in general...but again we will have burned through 32 picks in the top hundred of drafts in a span of 5 drafts in 2 more Summers....taking one or even 2 swings at a goalie over that time frame is not anything earth shattering if you like one or 2. I know goalies do not corrolate as strongly as skaters (where it is way more common to have undrafted goalies become NHL regulars), but there is still a greater probability of success for goalies that are drafted higher.

Of the top 20 highest paid (meaning they were pretty good at some point to get the contract even if say Carry Price has been done for a minute now) 6 came from the 1st 2 rounds of the draft, 11 from the top 100 picks in a draft, 15 in the top 4 rounds of a draft and only 5 outside the top 4 rounds with Bob the only undraft (15 plus years ago). If you want an actual good goalie, they are probably coming from the draft.

My problem was Davidson and the scouts fell in love with Gajan after a small sample size. Sure he was the most athletic goalie in the draft but pure athleticism isn't enough plus Gajan has always had technique issues and not a great puck handler. Hrabal and Augustine were considered the best overall goalies in the draft went right after that. Even Fowler some had ranked higher than Gajan (although that was closer).

They picked Misiak, Gajan, and Marcel Marcel all based on small sample sizes.

WJC for the latter two and Clark Cup for the former.

gajan was once good and he’s athletic. Goalies are voodoo. The pick isn’t working out but I wouldn’t bet against it working out longterm. There were better options available tho.

He was a big swing. The same rationale on Gajan got us Rinzel. There’s give and take when you draft traits and not finished players. Same kinda philosophy gets you Lardis altho he was more productive.

He had a huge game against the best prospect since McDavid. He got overrated.

Nick Lardis has bagged goal number 58. 1-0 Brantford in the 1st.

EDIT: Video

Again, this is sick. But what on earth are the Pete’s doing? He takes off, puck isn’t dropped he resets and takes off again. L #8 should be fired into the Sun I don’t even care if he’s a double underager or something. I swear the quality of the CHL is brutal these days.

Yup...ho hum . Another hatty for Lardis..clearly too God for the OHL now..but the doubters still asking if he translates to the NHL...ya ..sure....tge critics will not give Kardis any credit as he isxa 19 year old...Ifhr had done this in his draft year he would be touted in the top 5 ...so it is "just another 19 year old going off big "..ho hum..nothingvtibgetcexcited about...cannotveven alow the Hawks a crumb of hope forca star.

Yep but I think it should be noted the 3rd highest goal scorer in the OHL has 38 goals and the entire CHL is 45 goals.

He’s up 22 on third in the OHL and 15 on third in CHL. That’s absolutely absurd. He’s got two hat tricks his past 4 games.

Misa is second for both. So Hawks could potentially have one and two by the draft.

Oh yea I’m not making a grande proclamation about Lardis because of OHL quality. It’s just an observation. His second goal, same thing!

Looked like a set play and the Petes weren't expecting it.
