They're doing it to attract international fans. Summer PLEs are easier to do due to European vacation periods.
Since the TKO takeover there has been a clear focus for them:
1) Growing international markets
2) Cutting production costs
3) Maximizing revenue streams (i.e. more two-night PPVs, proliferation of advertising)
It's a business so I'm not complaining, but the business focus has clearly changed in the Nick Khan era. As much as Vince was criticized creatively, when it came to production/sets/etc., it was always bigger, bolder, better.
Sadly, with the product at this level, they're not.
The problem is when they expand this much and then the product goes back into a lull.
Exactly. We are probably in the middle of this peak period in WWE, will the demand be there two years from now to justify a two-night Rumble or Summerslam as the product regresses to some degree, even if revenues remain high.
It also just runs the viewer into the ground.
Monday Raw = 3 hours
NXT Tuesday
Smackdown = 3 hours
PPV on Saturday and Sunday
Christ.
I'm amazed at where die-hard WWE fans find time to watch all that content each week. It's like taking on a part-time job.
