You'd think there's no legal way to own someone's gov name but here we are lol
Since others may go down the same throught process I did I will save you the time. He was born Runnels then legally changed his name while a teenager in high school to Cody Garrett Runnels Rhodes. So he kind of is Cody Rhodes however maybe he has two last names or moved Runnels to be a middle name then solely Rhodes as his last name.

so does WWE own just 'John Cena' or his full name?

I dont know how Copyright and trademark laws work but are you telling me if John Cena goes to AEW, he can't be called John Cena?

Well they can if they let him and they would get a cut of his merch and stuff. But yes, WWE owns the rights to Cena's name and gets a cut off his movie deals as a result.

It's why a bunch of talent don't ever really have a big issue with name changes as fans do, since it allows them to keep the trademark on their normal name.
