The four best teams in the country are: Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Georgia. If it was truly about the four best teams, those would be the selections again this year. ND is heading towards another 2012 shitkicking, but as much as they want to deny it, the committee is not going to give up the ND ratings.

Alabama/Oklahoma
Clemson/ND

That's what I expect to see. Oh well, this was always going to be a bit of a re-tool year for UGA while transitioning out the last of the Richt players and getting the younger Kirby recruits ready to play, so I can't be that upset with 11-2 and a Sugar Bowl appearance. Hopefully UCF is there and Georgia can be the team to finally end that fantasy. If Georgia does get in to the CFP, I fully expect Bama/UGA to be the national championship again.

Edit: UGA getting a ton of support from the talking heads on their case to stay in above Oklahoma.

About $20 more than Joey Galloway is getting from the Big 12 for calling Oklahoma "complete in their own way".

Conference winners played heavily in the decision making process, but ND doesn't catch any flack for not even playing in a conference championship? Oh and Oklahoma's conference championship propelled them but OSU's didn't? They just need to admit that they didn't want 2 SEC schools in the playoff again, or even 3 teams from the Southeast.

I mean Georgia has two losses...

Notre Dame was undefeated.

Oklahoma was ahead of Ohio State going into the weekend. Nothing Ohio State did raised them above Oklahoma.

I didn't expect ND to fall out of it completely, but they were the unquestioned number 3? The happiest team in America right now is Clemson. They're going to boat race ND.

In the end, the results were exactly what I predicted would happen, but they didn't pick the four best teams today.

I don't think it's controversial at all.

They've also gotten it right every year so far, IMO.

There's just been a lot of people always complaining about how it turns out. I do believe that the best team has won pretty much every year.

But you got your people complaining about UCF. Last year Penn State looked like a team that maybe got shafted. Georgia not making it this year, etc.

Do you think a 6 or 8 team playoff would eliminate some of that? Or just exacerbate it

They would have caught a lot of heat if they put Georgia in. I don’t think it’s really much about two SEC teams as they had two in last year but more that they had two losses with one of them being most recent.

In other news second year in a row the Big Ten is shut out. Third in a row the champion didn’t make it even though Ohio State went in 2016. I think having all your best programs in one division isn’t exactly a good idea.

They need to set fire to those giant conferences and start the **** over, or go back to the old ones. These new ones confuse and anger me lol. (They probably aren't very new, but still.)

Just some shuffled teams around & the Big East no longer really being around is really all that changed. The SEC, Big Ten, Big IX, ACC, & PAC-12 (the only conference with a number involved with the conference name that changed it to fit the exact amount of teams).

Yeah. They got thrashed by LSU. Georgia had to be unbeaten going into last night to have consideration for the top 4. Putting them in over Oklahoma would of been a mistake. Even tho you could argue ND with no conf. title game could be left out. But that was never going to happen. Its all about the cash and ND does bring in the cash for thr NCAA

As a Bama fan I'm happy to be playing OU, as a college football fan they got it wrong.

Georgia is definitely better than OU and right now if it was Georgia vs Oklahoma, UGA would be a double digit favorite. I understand why they went with OU as they avenged their only loss on the season and won their conference.

Georgia is exhibit A for why they need to go with the 5 conference champions and 3 at large as they would have a legit chance of winning it all.

By that formula:
  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Georgia
  6. OSU
  7. Michigan
  8. Washington
That would be my 8 teams.

I'll update the picks tomorrow and set up a Bowl Matchup pickem.

For the bettors out there is Tua is healthy take Bama laying the points. OU will put up some points but watching them throughout the season they really are not physical at all. Their skill guys and half their back 7 on D don't like contact. I'm seen them pull out of too many tackles this year to have any hope they will be able to match Bama's physicality.

It’s really no different than Ohio State in 2015. I think most would have rated them at least a better team than Oklahoma & Michigan State but they lost to the latter on a walk off FG. USC in 2016 after they switched to Darnold were probably a top four team as well. But all these teams were held accountable for their loss(es).

Also for the bettors on here talking of physicality a few years ago I used to track Bama's opponents next game against the spread and they often failed to cover.

I didn't do a super in-depth analysis but if you're looking for a betting trend identify the handful of college teams that really punish their opponents and bet against the opponent covering the following week.
