Seems like these guys only hit the scene recently, any good recommendations?

Lots of great candidates for best Canadian band/singer-songwriter of all time.

Beyond the usual notables like Cohen, Downie, Joni Mitchell, etc... my more obscure top 5 shortlist:

John K Samson
Leslie Feist
About half of Broken Social Scene
Diana Krall
Mac DeMarco
Growing up late 80s early 90s , I liked

Grapes of Wrath
Northern Pikes
5440

Always enjoy the Trews, Sheepdogs, that is more my jam today

I swear it felt like 54-40 was at playing every fair, super eX or tulip festival that came through the Ottawa back in the 90s, I can't count how many times I saw them play, lol.

Yeah, twas them, haha and I would think that those bands were quite a great group of bands that are still relevant. The Pursuit fo Happinness is another one

Maybe a little bit more recent (but not much); Tea Party, Wide Mouth Mason, and I Mother Earth are some other ones that seemed to play every show I went to. Headstones is another one that has some good tunes and seemed to be a fair number of shows.

Dave Wilcox was a mainstay of just about any local fair.

Yeah the bands they used to play on The Bear 106.9! Our Lady Peace was another Canadian band from that era. Of all that group, Tea Party was probably my favorite, maybe because I'm a Doors fan, and they sounded a lot like them lol.

Lead singer could be Morrison's illegitimate son, lol. Loved their early stuff,

There was this kid with curly hair in school and to this day we still call him "Grapes of Wrath".
