Name one option near Millers level. They don't have a lot of cap. They are already losing 2/3 of Kadri, Burakovsky, Nichushkin according to many Avs fans. Name the options they have. I'm not saying they will go after Miller, but if they were serious about him, they require one of Byram or Newhook to get it done, Byram is untouchable and Newhook isn't enough alone.


What does a potential deal look like though? They don't have a lot of assets.

I definitely think they should go after Miller, they could get him for 2.5 million, and go for another run.

I don’t think Byram is realistic.

But Newhook and a 1st? I would do it

I think Newhook + 1st is good value for both sides. Replacing newhook as a 3c for a few mil is easier than acquiring a Kadri replacement to play as the 2c.

The Penguins wouldn't trade Marino if they can't re-sign Letang, so that deal wouldn't be able to be done until Letang would be re-signed.

Sounds like Miller just went from McMichael, Lappierre, "Lorio", 12 first round draft picks and a 2nd for retention to Miller for "Lorio"/Alexeyev and 20 OA.

I agree. I think if the Canucks retain, they probably get another asset in the deal, but this is pretty close.

High end prospect, 1st, 2nd or equivalent roster player/prospect for 50% retained Miller is what most of us are hoping for.

Malkin, Trochek, Nick Paul, Strome, Copp. Lots of potential options. Rants to 2C and get a winger. Avs have plenty of options or ways to skin the cat.

Newhook is cheap top nine, probably top six player the Avs must have.

Avs don’t have the assets to compete for Miller. You’ll get a nice offer on him from someone like the Caps.

If Miller ends up on the Avs, you’ll be sad because Vancouver lost that trade.

Fiala getting 7.9 leads me to believe that Boesers 7.5 QO doesn't hurt his value as much as we all think it does.

Malkin is the only one on Millers level, and he isn't going for less than 8-9m. Copp, Strome, Paul and even Trochek are lesser pieces, significantly so.

I disagree, we are talking about a superior player, who plays Centre as well, who has put up better numbers the last 3 years and still in his prime, who can be had for 2.625-5.25m. Sure only 1 year, but again Miller > Fiala. Cap space matters and being the better player matters. Most GM's are more worried about next season, than the seasons after.

Why does the player need to be Miller’s level? Avs need to field a great team. Not a great 2nd line.

You’ve created a strawman if the Avs have to get a player at JT Miller’s level. They don’t. Copp or Trochek would be great adds.

they get erik johnson's 6 million to cover for mackinnons raise. if they have something left, they can add term to the byram extension.

Trade Erik Johnson to a team like Anaheim and/or JT Compher and the Avs free up $9.5mm for next season on those two (both expiring). Avs will probably have $37mm of cap space by UFA.
