Good for Hank.
Shootouts have helped inflate his win total, but he's still the most talented goalie in NY history.
In OT Hank has won 21 games, with a further 43 in the SO for a total of 64 wins
Do you have a link?
Marty Biron: I always say I have different awards for different goalies, and by far Henrik is the best technical goalie I have ever played with or even seen in the NHL. I am developing a goaltending program with the Academy of Hockey here in Buffalo, and I am putting together a video, and for every five Henrik Lundqvist clips I have one of another NHL goalie because he can demonstrate better than anyone else the proper technical aspects of the game. In the end it all comes down to preparation, his practice habits, the time and effort he puts into the mental aspect of the game. He's way ahead of anybody. There isn't even one goalie who comes close to him.
Steve Valiquette: His compete level is so off the charts that he has skewed my eye as far as evaluating other goalies I work with in practice and games (Valiquette runs a goaltending school and is also the goaltending coach for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers). Because of him I now have such high expectations for how goalies should practice and work and prepare. Henrik was so on another level from other goalies when it comes to that compete level. Technically he's in a class of his own, too. Henrik gains position on the puck better than anybody. I learned so much from him as a player, and have taken that knowledge into my work with other goalies.
Yikes, goaltending coach and running a goaltending school? I'd love to see the goaltenders his school turns out ha ha.
All joking aside, I thought Valiquette was an underwhelming back up here and had poor overall technique in net. Who knows though, maybe he is much better as a teacher?
Unfortunately, I can see Lundqvist's career going the way of Curtis Joseph's, lacking that so-called "signature moment," which says more about the poor roster's put in front of him than anything else.
I mean the guy is most likely going to have (2) more Olympics. He has a Gold and a Silver medal already as the starter for that team. That's pretty good.
In some people's minds Lundqvist will never be on par with Richter until he wins a Stanley Cup, which is a sad viewpoint devoid of any context.
Messier won us a cup with Richter's help; Hank will win us a cup!

This. x1000.
I think Leetch's performance in the 93-94 playoffs was the most dominating, and clutch performance I've seen from any defense man in my life.
A defense man scoring 34 points in 23 games is ridiculous, in ANY ERA. An elite forward scoring 34 points in 23 games is a GREAT playoff run. Leetch was on another planet that year. Most impressive Conn Smythe I've ever seen.
He needs a signature moment to complete a great career. The 2006 goal medal game was a great accomplishment, but he doesnt have that signature moment that most goalies have. The 2006 Gold medal was more of a team accomplishment, not Lundqvist standing on his head like Richter did in 1996 or Hasek in 1998 or Roy in 1986.
Not to take anything away from Mess though. The guarantee was ****ing awesome. I just feel like that memory completely overshadows how dominant Leetch was during that run. Brian Leetch was no doubt the best ranger ever. Really wish he would've finished his career here. He deserved to be a career ranger more than anyone.
Can we take a moment and think about the fact that - in arguably his worst season in the NHL - Henrik finished with a 2.36 GAA and a .920 SV%? What would be a career year for the vast majority of goalies who are in the league right now.
