Got something to say about Lundqvist?

Let it out here. Love the save he made? Feel free to post about it.

Not a fan of the goal he let up? Felt like he could do more?

Feel free to post about that too.

This thread is really for any discussion revolving around Lundqvist's current play this season.

Meh the King stands alone. No NYR goalie is remotely close to being as revered as him in hockey and a Ranger.

For the "asterisk people" - exactly how many of Mike Richter's career 301 were won in OT? There was a 5 minute OT period in games that ended in a tie and I'm not sure that there's a place to figure that out short of going over every game.

Also, teams played for ties against superior opponents unlike today where you kind of have to go for it and someone has to win. How many of Henrik's OT/SOL's would've been ties?

Definitely a down year, but people have really blown it out of proportion.

One thing I find interesting is that he has a home save % of .924, while on the road he's only at .908, despite our road record being so much better than our home record. If the team could just score some damn goals at home we'd be in a much better spot.

Honestly, I hope we go back to a hybrid style of zone and man to man next season. I think this team has the potential to be much better defensively with some trimming of deadweight. If we can upgrade Moore-Stralman we would be set.

He is having his (arguably) weakest season in the NHL and still boasts an .917, 2.50 GAA, 4SO and 26W. He's set the bar very high for himself and some of the the criticism he's gotten this season has been way too unbalanced.

He's been looking good lately (since january) despite the two blips right after Sochi (where he was outstanding) and will be a rock come playoffs (if we make it). 302.

OT wins count the same now (as a ROW) as they did then. Games won in OT are "real" wins. Am I missing something? The difference is that after OT Richter would get a tie whereas Hank has a chance to get a W in the SO.

The real comparison asterisk people would make is between ROWs for Hank vs all Ws for Richter. Even when he passes that number, people will still have a point of contention because they will wonder how many of Richter's 73 ties he could've turned into wins.

The only way to shut asterisk people up will be for Hank to get 374 ROWs because that will be the number of Richter's wins plus if every single one of his ties, he turned into a win in the shoot out. Hank has what? 254 ROWs right now? So he needs to get 121 more ROWs over the next seven years so no asterisk could even possibly exist. I think it's possible.

If my research is correct (and I'd like to think it is), 33 of Richter's 301 wins came from winning in OT. The break down for those interested:
1989-90 1
1990-91 1
1991-92 2
1992-93 2
1993-94 3
1994-95 0
1995-96 1
1996-97 3
1997-98 2
1998-99 4
1999-00 6
2000-01 3
2001-02 4
2002-03 1

Hank is our gift and curse. My favorite Ranger, perhaps of all time, but certainly in the past 20 years and the man who makes each season bearable, gives us hope and has allowed us to see some entertaining playoffs. At the same time, he's too good for us to ever build the way we need to and so he will probably play out his career in NY without a cup. Which isn't a knock on him, since management has had plenty of time and opportunity to do things better and differently, but it's ironic that the most loved Ranger of his time is also a large reason why we will remain so mediocre.

So, now if we figure out how many Hank won in OT, before it got to the SO we can figure out how many more he needs to obliterate the asterisk for the nit pickets.

In OT Hank has won 21 games, with a further 43 in the SO for a total of 64 wins

Which means he has 268 non-OT wins, 2 more than Eddie's 266 :yo:. Nice find!

Anyone have video of Sam's call of the end of the game? I'd love to hear what he said about Hank, I was stuck watching the Ottawa broadcast on Center Ice.

Right, but how many of Hank's wins were OT wins and not SO wins? I guess SO wins are the real point of contention here.

And, like I said, playing for the tie changes the dynamic of the game including OT. If the NYR are playing the Devils, for example, and the Devils are satisfied with just getting the point to keep the Rangers 10 points behind them instead of risking losing in OT. So, the Devils ice the puck, shoot the puck over the boards, and generally play not to lose to maintain the distance between the two teams.

Teams can't/don't do that now. They have to play to win in OT and the shootout. Not saying that's a HUGE factor here but it DID exist of you can go back in time and recollect that era. OT's like that did happen.

And, FWIW, salary cap/parity league = teams are much closer and more competitive now than they ever were. Richter did play on some complete **** teams later in his career though.
