No going to lie, I wouldn't mind knowing either.

WE both know the closer they get to anything happening, someone will eventually leak stuff out.

I can guarantee you with about 80% certainty that whatever group Morgan is alluding to doesn't have a viable East Valley arena plan in place. And that is the only thing that will ever bring an NHL team back here.

From what I glean from his comments.... Craig isn't really sure they have the funding yet.
 
It really needs to be just one rich person, not 10 people pushing their nickels together. Don't need a second act of the Ice Clowns circus. And really, if it's multiple people, it's really not viable and just a mess long term.

Not to mention it may or may not be another Canadian led group.. which is why i'm not putting any hope in anything but a Suns/Player15 Group entity being anywhere feasible. It would just be an Ice Edge pt 2.

The Suns are the only group to get this done politically and functionally. We don't need a separate hockey only arena in the valley.

TED was dead before it even got to the Tempe council's vote.


And it wasn't even Alex Meruelo's fault. :laugh:

Seriously, I’m asking. I don’t understand what Meruelo did that do obviously antagonized the political class.

Strictly my opinion here.....

It started with Glendale when he came in all hard core at the city manager over negotiating a multi-year lease. Glendale terminating the original lease five years earlier didn't help and he was probably aware of that. Also knew the league's view of the city after that happened and figured that was a leverage point for him.

Couple that with what he had done to date with the political class in California and Nevada for years he probably figured Arizona was just like them..... and they simply aren't.

As much as Arizona cities take political jabs at each other, they will always circle the wagons with each other when it comes to someone coming from the outside looking to fight.

Well I don't know..... like most of the last two pages in this thread involve someone bring his name up dropping a f-bomb at him.


And the question was asked what did Meruelo do piss off the political class?

It started with Glendale.

If I wanted to actually go deep HF doesn't allow enough characters in a post for it.



I could go even deeper in how the Coyotes were a goner from Glendale way back in 2005 and nobody (including me) realized it then.
 
Especially withholding payment(s) on hotel rates that were already negotiated by the NHL for every team, in an attempt to force them to take less money than every other team was paying. Scumbag!

He truly was probably the worst owner in all professional sports. And that’s really saying a lot, Arizona fans deserved better.

Like Glendale terminating the lease with IceArizona after fooling their outgoing city attorney into believing he could immediately go to work for them, thus violating state laws??


Not exactly limited to Glendale either....my previous post above hinting Meruelo could have not been the reason TED failed was somewhat true.

I keep asking. myself why I'm just not invested in the Utah team. After all, I am leaving AZ for good next March. Just when I think that I have a good understanding of myself, this happens.

Enjoyed the overtime loss. Very good game and Utah didn’t deserve the point it received. Watching Utah is unfortunately good for my feelings of bitterness, as it is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
