That doesn't really matter now.... they're first round picks because they stand out above their peers at their current level of competition.
Or are overrated. Draft isn't an absolute ranking of who is the best.

Robertson missing it for Leafs camp is the biggest one. A few other players (Beecher was one) got cut for Covid-related reasons, but mostly depth guys.Neat fact: Canada will have more first rounders in the pressbox eating nachos then the Czechs will have on the ice this tourney.lol
I haven't followed US closely... are they missing any big players due to covid/injuries other than Hughes who was held by his club? Or are they full power?
They aren’t even the favorite on paper, but if Canada insists, give it to them. Takes all the pressure off us if everyone believes that nonsense.
Nope, hes the better player.Spence only made the team because Robertson got covid
He doesn't mean dominating the U20 tournament. He is referencing this 2001 birth year as being pretty strong through the tournaments they've played. He's not wrong that they've been a solid group.... but he can't say they've earned the "best on paper" tag as we have clearly changed papers since those other tourneys, which were a while ago. Canada has assembled a better roster than they had up through the U18's and the USA has lost a number of guys, including some to Covid, unfortunately. You have to factor those in and once you do so it definitely appears that the US has taken a bit of a step back.Uhm, what? That's just factually incorrect. They have never dominated this age group - they've been placing better the past decade, but 4 trips to the finals in the past 10 years is a far cry from dominating.

Exactly! It’s also, not just one draft class. The 2020 draft class gives Canada a big boost. They have the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th, and 27th overall draft choices on their team.
At least for players participating in the WJ’s I think the American advantage in that 2019 draft over Canada is largely exaggerated too.
this team does not touch either of those teamsThis must be historic, even the dream teams of '95 and '05 didn't have that many first rounders. It's pretty cool, hopefully it'll translate to dominance in the tournament.
We won't know that until we actually play the tournament.this team does not touch either of those teams
Now Russia, Sweden and the USA feel the exact same way. Silver or less is for the losers. What I like about our WJC team is every year, regardless of how many first round picks, if we don’t win Gold we are losers. This team wins Gold, or they are a disappointment, just like every team Canada.
05 - Price, Weber, Carter, Getzlaf, Phanuef, Seabrook, Richards, Perry, Crosby, Bergeron. We won't know that until we actually play the tournament.
Can you post the NHL careers of the players on TC this season too?05 - Price, Weber, Carter, Getzlaf, Phanuef, Seabrook, Richards, Perry, Crosby, Bergeron.
Yes we do.

Woops. ThanksCarey Price?
on the '05 junior team? news to me.
Jeff Glass was the goaltender.
and some backup
I'm Canadian, so obviously I can't speak for these nations, but I'm not so sure. I think the US definitely have that same attitude (gold or bust). And it seems like the Russians do too. But from my perception it seems like the Swedes have a different attitude about things. It seems like they're still able to value/celebrate silver medals.. even if there's disappointment with falling short of gold. Now Russia, Sweden and the USA feel the exact same way. You also have exactly no way of knowing it. Im sure plenty of people said no team would ever come close to 95 either. Its an easy prediction.
15 teams since the 05 WJ team . None were better. This one aint either.

Imagine thinking who random people on HF boards think is the favourite going into a junior tournament is going to give other teams "less pressure".
