Is this actually a criticism? The #1 job in an empty net situation is not getting scored on. Its the only job you're really out there to do.
Holy Sens with an awful game. One scoring chance per period, they were down 2 goals and didn't get a SOG until 12mins into third period. Laughable.
We had as many goals as Sens had scoring chances and we should have potted twice as many.
I wouldn't be so hard on Sens but they've NEVER played us well. Can't even play the youth card anymore like they were in Covid North division season where we beat them 9X in 9 games.
To say we;'re in the sens head is understatement. Its like a Tyson in prime fight. The fight is won before the first round.
Last 17 games between these two clubs Edmonton is 14-2-1.
Its Oilers vs baby seals almost every time.
More aptly its theres. A date with the grim reaper and a death sentence. This ain't 1982 anymore. hehIf the playoffs started now, we would play the Kings.
If the NHL reverted back to 1-8 seed playoffs. We would play...the Kings.
It is our destiny.
I would believe it. I recall the covid bubble season was just straight up bullying. People brought up our record vs the Sens as a reason why our record was inflatedSaid in the pre-game thread that the Senators are similar to Nashville against us. Didn’t know the splits over the last 17 but not surprised. Oilers dominate the sens.
You say the Oilers didn’t play well but in the same paragraph say Ottawa couldn’t get out of their own zone without getting stripped or intercepted. The Sens were one of the hottest teams in the league and the Oilers completely shut them down. That’s a good game.I don't think the Oilers played well in this one by any stretch of the imagination(don't think they've been playing all that well for a few games actually), thankfully Ottawa was much worse. I was almost frustrated on behalf of the Senators with how bad they were at exiting their own zone with possession, the Oilers really should have won this game by 5+ goals considering how many times Ottawa got intercepted and stripped trying to get past their own blueline, that defense just straight up wilts under the slightest forechecking pressure.
Even when they started to play with more desperation in the final 10 minutes, they mostly resorted to attempting hero plays where one guy tries to go through 3 Oiler defenders. One of the easier nights Skinner has had in a while for sure, even when the Sens would cobble together some offensive pressure, they'd miss by miles.
Beating up the Sens is more understandable because they're never good. The Preds over that span have been at worst a playoff team.Said in the pre-game thread that the Senators are similar to Nashville against us. Didn’t know the splits over the last 17 but not surprised. Oilers dominate the sens.

They were the best team in the league 20 years ago. Just never put their shit together.Beating up the Sens is more understandable because they're never good. The Preds over that span have otherwise been a pretty consistent playoff team.

"Deserve-O-Meter" was about 87%-13% for EdmontonEh, more of an expected goals ice tilt towards the Oilers tonight than last night against the sharks.
We have up nothing and had a ton of grade A chances.
I’m not fully convinced he made the wrong play there. If he throws it out front there’s a really good chance he starts the breakout for them leading to an odd man rush against. I’d have to look at a replay to see what he was seeing.Yeah he didn’t even pretend to be looking for someone open.
Last 18 games against Preds going back to 18-19 season Oilers are 14-2-1-1 against that club. In cap era it doesn't get more dominating than that. For instance the Oilers would have a much less lopsided record over even SJ, or well anybody.Said in the pre-game thread that the Senators are similar to Nashville against us. I didn't think they could replicate last season's incredible run but it looks like they might just do it.Team is on an absolute heater. All the doom and gloom from the beginning of the year with a Stanley cup loss hangover is officially in the rearview mirror.
Enjoy the break, boys. Well deserved time off for the team.

Ottawa and Nashville are our pts on a calendar. The Oilers could party before these games and maybe come up with 2pts.
Scorelines also uncannily similar. In last 17 against Ottawa its Oilers 73 Ottawa 42. In last 18 against Preds its 74-43. How crazy is that? Its like identical.
