What are the players gonna do? Go get jobs pumping gas? Shut up and get back on the ice. The people who deserve the most ice-time don't always get it. Suck it up. Life isn't fair.

They wil make a lot more money pumping gaz 10 hours a week than playing 3 games a week+ 3 practice+ countless hours on the bus

Coach Gruden on the left.

And their losses will mount and their ticket sales will dwindle.

If this guy was prepared to fire his (reasonably good) coaching staff mid-season because they weren't playing his kid enough... he doesn't care about that.

Who's going to coach though? And who would want to?

I'd say the vast majority of Jr. A coaches looking to take a step up.

Good on the players for threatening to walk en masse and forcing the owner's hands. Had they just sat and done nothing, this would've just been a dime a dozen firing that maybe would've gotten a few quizzical looks before everyone moved on.

Granted, that's going to be one helluva awkward situation for the coaches. Methinks they'll be glancing around for other work to be ready in three years, if not sooner.

OHL commish (and CHL Pres) Branch did head down to Flint to "mediate" between the owner/coaches and was to address/talk with the players today.

Definitely not something that was on his agenda last week for today. :sarcasm:

I think that the three year term for the coaches' deals should alleviate some concerns (for at least a couple of years).

Definitely think this (nepotism) might be addressed at the next OHL BOG, etc.

"Quit team" is harsh. None of these kids were going to actually quit. They would refuse duties (aka wildcat strike/walk-out) for a while.

If it wasn't solved as quick as it was....I'd bet every player would have been at their next game. Practice? Off-ice training? Video review? No. None of that would have happened. They would have played games.....but that is it.

Quit is probably the right word it's all or nothing until it's sorted, I doubt the team would let the players play if they weren't to do anything else.

It's easy to understand the son tho. Either follow the pack and be recognized as anti-shenanigans or be the daddy's boy who got pushed in the league, thus risking, no guaranteeing being totally ignored by all possibilities of future hockey career.

He was reported to have been on the phone with his dad after the coaches were fired tearing a strip off him. Sounds like he was genuinely pissed off and embarrassed and not just following the pack. Good on him.

The first autoworkers strike took place in Flint in 1936. Its cool that the hockey players orchestrated the first hockey strike there too.

They wanted to hurt the owner by bringing all the negative attention to the team and force him to make the right decision with everyone watching.

Good job to the players for supporting their coach.:handclap:

For a union to work they can't say we want to be paid by the hour and over time etc for a union to work and the only way it would be possible if give players a flat salary.
I work for a union and I get paid by the hour and for the OT I work. There are also differing levels of pay, so I'm not sure why the CHL needs to be different.

There are some that think players should get paid for every hour there with the team travel but also everytime they player work out so you would be telling players you make your own work hours as for over time the fear some have had is player go play to get to over time just to make the extra cash.
