When we make a strong run you're not allowed back on the bandwagon

Which is worse, disliking the guy because he is stubborn and unable to adapt, or loving him blindly because he got an offensively inept team to over-achieve defensively for one season?

The only day anyone managing or playing for this team, or any Rangers team going forward, is immune from criticism is the night they win the Cup. That exception withstanding there is always room for improvement and there is nothing wrong with pointing out mistakes.

In my line if work ( NYC Fire Lt . ) we have a saying , " your only as good as your last job "
Las year was just that !!!!! Fire torts now. !!!

Haha
Fire torts the Clown and Side Show Sully

you need to relax. youre making those of us who dislike torts look like idiots.

as for torts, he needs to adjust. fix the transition. i know the argument around here is that "we dont have talented puck carriers which is why we dump and chase"

i disagree. i think a good coach can teach these guys how to transition. employ the system and make them practice it, im sure you can coach guys like stepan, cally, hags, kreider to be able to carry the puck up the ice. its teaching them neutral zone/breakout play, its not like we're asking torts to teach someone to be a 50 goal scorer, which is impossible.

Since the last job would actually be the last game, I guess you want us to fire the coach after every lost game.

I'm still not sold on firing Torts. How many rookies did we play last game? Sure, his system is incredibly stubborn, but the team has been decimated by injuries and stuck with under performing players. There is only so much he can do.

As a 44 yr old man who had season tickets from 1977though 2010 I reserve the right to think whatever I want about this club . I've seen enough bad NYR teams to know one . As for jumping on Torts bandwagon not going to happen I soured on him almost immediately .

For a 44 year old man you sure sound like an immature 12 year old with your constant use of "Torts the Clown." Is that really your best insult? Give it a rest.

I, like Bob Richards, am not happy with Tortorella's stubborness and refusal to change the system but he is still a good coach. This team will adjust, get healthy, get hot, and make the playoffs.

Well we can't fire Renney again. I don't see any other options. :sarcasm:

Well, what Torts can do is try and adapt to his roster and get them to play to there strengths. I haven't seen him try and change much, other than lines.

This guy is supposed to be one of the best coaches in the league, if that's the case he should be able to get the most out of this depleted lineup.

His stubborness gets in the way and in a shortened season there's no time for it. Ottawa has won what, 3 or 4 games in a row now and there lineup is decimated just like ours.

I understand your point of "there's only so much he can do" but it doesn't look like he's trying to do anything else. Same square peg and round hole that will ultimately be his undoing.

Asst. coaches who are potential HC material

Here's a "what-if" scenario, just for fun: Assume that Torts gets canned at the end of the season with the Blueshirts missing the playoffs or getting eliminated easily in the 1st round. Out of all the asst. coaches (or minor league coaches) who have never been a HC before, who would you tab as being an ideal HC candidate for the Rangers? Are there any young, rising stars out there who intrigues you? This is not a rumor thread, so feel free to just throw anyone's name out there.

Just to get the discussion started: Nashville's Lane Lambert and Pittburgh's Todd Reirden are a couple of guys who are being credited for the improvement in their respective teams' PP success. Can anyone picture them as being Tortorella successors?

Sully has to go. You can't have a PP suck this bad for this long. :shakehead

I have no opinion on Torts one way or the other but now that Lindy Ruff is out there who has made playoff teams out of crap, I think it's worth a second look. :sarcasm:

In my line of work we have a saying ' drink more rum' its not relevant but this seems to be the place unrelated work quotes.

As for Torts, I'd love to see him trust Lundy and the D a bit more and let the forwards off the leash. The problem with firing him is that I'm not sure there is a better option out there. Personally, I'd give him another pre season before thinking about kicking him out.

I like Horachek out of Nashville, and former Devs HC Larry Robinson, who's with SJ now.

Oh, and I hear there's this guy Mike Sullivan who was getting looks for HC gigs around the NHL last off-season :naughty:

At the LEAST Sullivan has to go. I would be okay if we tried that first. I can tolerate Tort's offensively crippling system at even strength as long as we're netting pucks regularly on the pp.

Maybe they can hire Rupp and he can play the system he used during the 06 -07' years!
That team was a 4 line rolling offensive juggernaut!
One of most exciting teams I've ever seen play

Torts is a good coach. He's just in a jam right now. He just needs to get the boys to grind it out. They need to block out the negativity and focus on grinding out a win.

We should also have a look at Dave Cameron an assistant coach in Ottawa but with no NHL head coach experience . He has coached the World Jr Team for Canada and has coached in the AHL and also in the OHL and in the Memorial Cup Finals . He has the same intensity as Torts...and he must be doing something right in Ottawa even as an assistant . I think we have to go outside the circle of retreads in coaching and get a bright new guy moving forward .

I can actually see Tortorella coaching an All-Star game and making them dump and chase.

I can't stand it anymore. I know our players are crap, but the way he preaches a stagnant system is so boring and ineffective.
