I wish this team would work on their breakout strategy, I feel it's the weakest part of their game and the reason we get hemmed into our defensive zone so often. When you get hemmed in like that, minutes at a time, your defense is going to look like crap.

Immediately throwing it up the glass is not a good strategy, they shouldn't treat the puck like a damn hand grenade ALL THE TIME in the defensive zone. Sometimes their break outs are good, but that isn't a common enough occurrence.

How bad the breakout is is readily apparent on our PP when we struggle.

Breakout was great tonight
Fantastic transition game
Creative and sustained offensive pressure throughout 3 periods

Really unfair to lose it this way in a heartbreaker

Great control and pressure in the defensive zone.

Wonderful, crisp breakouts.

Good forecheck with guys supporting each other all over the ice.

Oh yeah, and great powerplay with crisp passing and guys getting good looks.

...Said no one ever.

Amazing to me how Del Zotto finagled his way back on to the power play after Torts declared John Moore the new power play "quarterback."

Game 3: "John Moore is running our powerplay now."

Game 4: we see Del Zotto and Richards stinking it up at the point again. Game 5-same story.

Run this guy out of town on rails. Seriously.

Absolutely worthless.

All NBCSN could talk about on the first Caps goal was how Oates made an adjustment to Torts' adjustment of trying to take away ice from Green and Ovechkin. They drew up a play and executed it perfectly within 5 seconds of the PP starting.

He has been consistently out-coached away from MSG all year.

Did Guy Boucher find another job? I'm tired of this team relying on a flukey bounce to generate offense. We have the god damn horses to generate offense, this is a coaching and systems problem.

ugh no killer instinct on this team. hopefully we win the series but i've just lost all confidence after this game. ill leave my torch and pitchfork in the closet until after the series is over though

I agree. Wouldn't hurt to try him. His excuse in Tampa was he had ****** D and goaltending and they were legitimate. No excuses here.

Torts is part of the problem, but the roster is so inept. Sather need a major overhaul while players like Callahan still have high trade value. He is not the right guy to lead the rebuild in my opinion though.

Do you guys honestly see a team with Ryan Callahan as their leading TOI/PG forward as a cup winner? Ryan Callahan would be a 3rd line player on contending teams like Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, San Jose, and LA.

I do not want to invest in a player like him, whose wheels are falling off. It's time to cut ties and move on. It was a fun ride, but he needs to go. 1 yr left on contract, but his perceived value as a leader will hopefully have a team overpay like the Wild did for Pominville's services. Callahan for Jaskin and a 2nd, get it done.

And the LHD thing needs to be sorted out. You can't have 4 LS defenseman in McDonagh, MDZ, Staal and Moore. I prefer to keep the youth and move Staal to Carolina.

Your sig is killing me over here. I just hear Torts screaming.

Coach has to go, this system and his decisions lately have been so bad its almost as if he's trying to get fired.

Good teams don't have one leader. Callahan is one leader and a good one at that. One of our A is out and another needs to be taken out like old yeller.

Cally is one important cog on this team who can certainly help the team win. If you can find a trade where you get significant value for him then you might do it but theres no need to actively seek a trade for him. He's a damn good player and great Ranger. This teams other problems prevent it from winning, Callahan is not a problem that keeps this team from winning.

I don't know much about Jaskin why did you pull this name out of nowhere? what has he done that makes him more valuable? Similarly what would you get for Staal?

I can't help but wonder how we would be doing with tarasenko right now and/or Sauer

out-coached in a game for the 53rd time this season. keeps a struggling richards with a held back nash. nash unconditioned because the staff doesn't know how to manage practices. we score on the PP a few nights ago with moore on the point and he is immediately removed for the next game for some baffling reason that i don't even want to attempt to assume. richards and del zotto and girardi and apparently stepan freeze the puck at the point on the pp, but continue to be paired together seemlessly. we have no puck possession and guys end up tired and injured much faster than they should.

we have every piece to beat this team and we're not even coming close minus lundqvist.

I have a hard time seeing how we can compete with this approach under the cap. We have built for ten years, and still it seems like that it will take (i) inhuman effort, that if nothing else will hurt half the roster, and (ii) two three really talented players more -- for us to even play as well as the top 8 teams. How on earth do you build that team???

Except 4the lineers, nobody play well for Torts.

The breakout up the boards didn't work at all last night.

The Caps kept pinching us off before we could swing the puck out of the zone.

You'd think Torts would see this and use the middle of the ice so we can transition.

I thought the Rangers turned it up a notch in the OT. But yes, the third period was a stinker.

Geed news is, the coaching staff are fairly adept at matching lines at home, so game six is a good bet to be a win. The problem is getting that extra gear going for game 7.

The coaching staff of this team is completely incompetent. They play the entire game like they are on the PK, never covering the other teams points. On a funny note, I got a warning from calling the Caps the Craps. You have to be kidding me. :shakehead

I hate how so many of you are just willing to give the players a pass. Nash has been invisible, Richy has been our third best center (at best), DZ is an offensive dman who doesn't provide offense, but they're all okay it's the coaching staff's fault.

Who is out there on the ice, the coaches or the players? Sad to see so many of you refusing to place blame where it actually belongs.
