Some are crazy to think torts is a bad coach.. He took players like Prust Mitchell strals boyle etc into average/borderline players into successful players on teams.. He developed mcd, step, hags, dz sauer to some extent... Raised the game of Callahan Dubi staal and girardi.. Has prob influenced moores play to a big extent, soon Brass and dorsett..He's a very effective coach and we don't know how he is behind closed doors.. But with the work he's done he should hav a higher approval rating then does.. I like him a lot..but it's almost that make or break time.. **** or get off the pot!! With the complete overall he gets more time.. But sather is more to blaim for his personnel decisions for sure.. You can't hav success when you bring in 6 new faces and hav success.. We brought in another 5 guys this trade deadline... If we don't keep a team together for 2-3+ yrs your not going to gain any success.. Tweaking your roster is fine but keep trading and changing over that many faces shouldn't com with high expectations short term.. It's foolish!!

absolutely agree... we had a team that took us to the cup finals... we ripped it to shreds, "replaced" too many irreplaceable players (for our system) and this is the result...

so you like the powerplays we get 5 on 5, when the mediocre Capitals can play in our end-zone for 9-10 minutes in a row because of the awesome, coward, boring Torts system. Think back of the 2nd period yesterday (Green goal) or the overtime in Washington Basically any team we played in the playoffs under Torts was all over us, read Henke, luck, and I do not know what every series we managed to win, but it was for sure not because of better play.

Gimme a break.

With this talent and this team you must play in the endzone of every team in the league or atleast 50/50. Torts is a defensive coach that does not have the balls to play this team how it suppose to be played, he MUST be fired.

I don't know where you got the "sense of entitlement" from. A lot of things went right for us last year. Richards' shot doesn't go under Carlson's arm, for example, and we're probably eliminated in game 6 in Washington.

My point is however, that it felt like everything was going our way last year. And I don't think I was the only one here who felt like they were going to win it all. IDK. Something about it. And it wasn't the way we were playing. It was just that feeling of "things are going our way." Nonetheless, we were dominated for long stretches by teams all season. I just watched Game 7 vs. Ottawa a few days ago. They were hemming us in for 3 shifts at a time. We weren't doing that. (I blame that on the collapsing strategy, but many here don't) We played some ugly hockey, got some bounces, but in the end, NJ was just plain better than us. They beat us with a forecheck like nothing we had seen from the Rangers in the entire playoffs. To sum up, I don't think that we were as good as it might have seemed last year. (Still the best NYR season in a long time though)

Ive only seen one person who is a die-hard Torts supporter, and Im almost convinced Kel Varsen is a mouthpiece/yes-man for the Rangers organization.

I see a lot of other folks on this board, knowledgeable ones, that take in all the factors and realize an immediate coaching change will make little difference, just as its done in the past.

To proclaim that a coach's shelf life is overwith less than a year removed from a conference finals birth, after a lockout shortened season, and after 2 major roster revisions, one of them just 6 weeks ago, is not just impatient, its petulant.

I agree though. As much as I don't think Torts is 'the' coach for this team, I'm not sure anyone they'd bring in is, and we'd really be back at square one, or worse. Anyone who has followed this team past this year and last should know by now a coaching change will do nothing for the powerplay and transition game. That will be bad until god knows when. I've stopped hoping the PP will improve any time soon.

Really the biggest change would be the defensive strategy, which could in turn affect the offensive strategy, but to what degree is anyone's guess.

I've said consistently since we made the Nash trade I didn't like it. That being said I'm a fan of the team and would like nothing more than for it to work out, but today I still stand by what I said when we made it, I don't think it was the right call. We should have kept our homegrown guys, that team was better than the sum of its parts, they grew up together and I think they showed last year they could compete legitimately for a cup together.

I don't know. I think the results speak more to the team's accomplishment than our subjective feelings about how or why they ended where they did. It was the best NYR season in decades. Pretty amazing in my book. Obviously, it could have been better, but making it to the CF is a big deal, especially for a team who almost never gets there.

I agree. They didn't dominate like a solid puck possession team would, not by a long shot. But, ending up at the top of the conference, just barely losing the president's trophy and starting as the one seed in the east is a huge success anyway you slice it. "Finding ways to win" is as good as flat out dominating if you can do it with consistency.

I actually think Sather was better in 2000-2004 than he was in 2005-2009. Some of the mistakes he made post-lockout were so egregious, they'll go down as some of the worst acquisitions in the history of the sport.

That's the thing though. Teams will adjust and you won't "find a way to win" consistently.
