I still believe that it would take a poor half season next year to see Tortorella fired, regardless of what happens here.

If I were Glenn, he'd be gone with a first round loss. I don't think this team this year is so linked to his style of game that he's irremovable any more.

Dont see him getting fired anytime soon.

He got the type of team he wanted with all the deadline moves and the team has looked very much better as a result. Its tough to argue with that.

A) Personnel. I think you've got 18 position players that are all buying into the pitbull mentality for the first time all season.

B) Its looking less and less horrible as the season comes to an end, which is all I can hope for at this point.

C) I think a hot team entering the playoffs is just a little added bonus.

I agree. In fact, things are lining up almost exactly as I predicted at the deadline.

Still, if this team gets knocked out early it's a huge defeat. Knocked out in conference finals, how would that make you feel? Like this year was a success?

No offense NikC, but this sounds like a John Tortorella sound board. Speaking in platitudes doesn't change this teams systemic problems.

offense highly taken...

Speaking in platitudes?! * throws blueshirt believe against the wall*

Never stated that we were super team now and that all are troubles were gone, just that we are starting to click offensively at the right time, which sure beats the alternative? Or should I just paint the picture with black and grey?

Considering the weird shortened season and all thats happened, yea, I think a conference finals berth would be a success.

I will fully admit that this team has won me over to a degree over the past few weeks. Im starting to think they can beat anyone in the conference so long as Crosby's jaw prevents him from being 100%.

To me, the goal of this organization was a Finals appearance. Despite the fact the offense was tweeked a couple of times, that should still be the goal considering the goaltending and defense is comprised largely of the same personnel. Right now, the forward combos (and especially the center depth) is looking a lot more deep; this was not the case in the 2012 playoff run, when they could rarely score more than 2 a game, and could score more than 3 for the life of 'em.

Nash is also more of a game breaker than Gabby was. The team had to grind out EVERY goal last year. Nash can make a nice move and get you back into a game in the blink of an eye.

I've been saying it for weeks now, conference is full of fakers, opens the door for us. This year is lining up to be an even better opportunity than last year.

The addition of Dorsett and Staal would be huge...

I think we need to quell the expectations with both of these guys.

Staal is trying to learn to play the game with limited vision right now. The NHL playoffs isnt really the best litmus test for something like that.

Dorsett has been out with a broken collarbone and has not yet been cleared for contact. Not sure if he'll be able to get into game shape anytime soon.

169-114-27 record as head coach Torts
164-117-46 record as head coach Renney

and, surprisingly, the Rangers look pretty damned good with those two records combined over their seasons:

333-231-73

I'll temper my expectations for Staal, but they really need him. With Eminger playing so little in the 3rd, it's clear that Torts' doesn't have complete faith in him.

Yes, John Moore has been a bit of a God-send and could be a solid #6 guy.

Whether Staal comes back and whether hes effective are 2 different questions, IMO.

I don't know why, either. Eminger is one of the best #6 defensemen in the league.

I'm not confident yet that Tortorella is going to throw a guy out there who has missed more than half the season and reportedly lost a great deal of weight into the thick of the playoffs. We'll see.

1) I don't really know what that means.

2) I don't know if that's a compliment.

3) I don't know if that's true.

Eminger was a mess yesterday.

Basically what it mean is if you go around the NHL,and look at the defenseman who plays the 6th most minutes on their team, Eminger is better than the vast majority of them.

Its more of an acknowledgement than a compliment.

Its impossible to verify, its just my opinion.

He was the longterm piece in that deal from the beginning.

Playing very nicely as long as he doesn't have to do more than what they are asking of him now.

Hes been getting some PP time lately. I think he needs some work on his positioning/physicality in his own zone. But the fight with Skille proves hes willing, thats for sure.

He's been good. I like the way he thinks - quickly ! No hesitating when he gets the biscuit. Just wish he could take a hit without falling on his bum hard every time.

Fair enough. I don't really care if he's the best #6 defenseman in the league, if the head coach doesn't feel comfortable playing him with a four-goal lead, there's an issue.

Jersey finished last season on a big run. They lost 1 out of their last 10 games. I read some comments from their players a few weeks ago suggesting they were playing their best hockey at the right time. Jersey still had time to turn it around this season when those players brought up last season. The Rangers need to take care of business this week and clinch a spot by Thursday at the latest. 3 point lead. 3 games left. Magic number is 4. Hopefully Winnipeg splits their next 2 road games and the Rangers can clinch on Tuesday against FLA which is ready to go home. I read Enroth is playing for Buffalo tonight. Give Henrik some rest. Playoffs begin next Tuesday.

Still hasn't learned not to pull the goalie on a powerplay with almost 2 mins to go. Cost us a point.

I'd say having a single goal against the league worst defense for 59 minutes was worse, but sure.
