That’s basically the only things.I think offering Tocchet a lot money & him possibly having a personal connection to the organization to the point where it could blind him to challenges are probably the only thing going for the Flyers here.
I think if you look at it practically though if you’re Tocchet this is probably your last shot where you have good stock around the league. I don’t think any of these jobs Flyers included are you setting you up to win any time soon.
I think sitting out the year & going back to TNT while waiting for the next coaching cycle might make a lot of sense for him.
should be.. but i feel they are gonna do their best to get back into the PO mix..and by best i mean something stupidNext season should be a mulligan. No coach is going to get this team into the playoffs and the roster can’t radically be reshaped in an offseason. My hopes are Shaw or Lappy agrees to take the helm for ~2 years with the potential for more if a good job is done. Ownership gives Briere 2 more years with the caveat that the team has to be looking like they have potential 2-3 seasons from now. It was always going to take time post-Fletcher to attempt to right the ship. No coach or GM would turn this team into a contender or even a playoff team quickly
I have a hard time seeing ownership give their blessing for the trades the last couple of years only for them to do an about-face. NHL players they traded include Provorov, Walker, Frost, Farabee, Laughton, and Kuzmenko. NHLers they got in return: Pelletier. That’s a solid chunk of the team gone and not replaced. I would think Briere would need ownership’s blessing to go in that direction with the understanding that the future is more important than the presentshould be.. but i feel they are gonna do their best to get back into the PO mix..and by best i mean something stupid
He turned down Chicago so I’m guessing he would turn down Philly.
Just looked up his picture. Holy shit, he really is just a redheaded version of Matt, lol.He looks like Owen Tippett’s cousin. It’s a tough call, mate.
Leaving me off the list lol hurtfulIf @Appleyard really doesn't want or think he is capable (can he be any worse) indeed I would have him as part of the scout team with
@JojoTheWhale
@BigToe and
@Chinatown88
And i feel like I am leaving 2 others from the site off the list
i clearly stated i know i am missing people lolLeaving me off the list lol hurtful
Signed an extension.
Sign me up.Gonna wait for Bednar to get fired and Crosby to join them
The Cubs in the 60’s did that. They had a “college of coaches” where a bunch of dudes would cycle up and down the organization.I haven't followed this team near as long as many here, so apologies if I sound like a noob. But based on my experience since 2012... could we try not having a coach? Just spitballing.
It doesn’t matter who they hire. The guy will be fired in three years any way. This league shows little loyalty to a coach. The first inkling of a losing situation and the coach goes under the bus. Kiss of death for a coach? Win the Jack Adams award; you’ll be gone in a year. Rare is the situation where a NHL coach can build a program to his wishes. Makes one wonder, if they were so bad, why they were hired in the first place?
If you don't have much cap space and need cap space to make changes, what can you do to get more cap space?I have a hard time seeing ownership give their blessing for the trades the last couple of years only for them to do an about-face.
