Start at 3:51. I caught something interesting that Elliotte said. He mentioned that we need to pay attention to the wording when the auction gets announced. Says that there may be a possibility that the wording states that if you buy the land, you have to build an NHL arena. Have to think that would favor us.
If indeed that verbiage is in the land use wording, then we'll know for sure that there was some level of... I don't want to say "collusion," but at least an understanding... between Phoenix and Meruelo on this. Because if that is the case, that's as much as gifting the land to Meruelo (albeit with a hefty "convenience charge") in the auction process.
Auction to season is 3 months? SLC would need 15 months from Auction at absolute minimum to e ready.
Three months wouldn't be enough time. But if the league decided to force a move
now, they and Ryan Smith would have plenty of time to get things in order. Your insistence that the franchise would have to essentially be rebuilt from the ground up does not apply - in an emergency relocation scenario, the only thing that the league and the franchise would need are buildings to work and play in and an executed sale agreement. The entire org chart, the total franchise apparatus, would be packed up lock, stock, and barrel and moved 12 hours north, and any pieces that didn't make the trip would be compensated for by the Utah Jazz/Real Salt Lake management infrastructure. All existing contracts and agreements would remain in place.
The NHL 100% has its ducks in a row behind the scenes in case this contingency becomes necessary. Thankfully, it looks for now like it won't be needed.
