Just as i hoped it would be.

Matches were all good to great.
Promos were all strong.
Crowd was hot all through the show.

The only thing i disliked was the finish to the main event, but i wanna see what’s next still.

Ok, I'm asking this sincerely, I'll apologize in advance for the language but you're the ones laughing at me when I bet you don't understand what you're criticizing. For all you 'smart marks' that parrot everything you've absorb from the Metlzer cult and WrestleTalk (or today's wrestling culture in general)...

What makes someone good in ring?

I can explain and I already began why MJF is better (a lot better btw). Moxley and Bryan are both pretty bad, I'll grant that Bryan was great before injuries but the stupid kicks and doing five submissions holds, is that what you simp for?

Let's treat this like a math equation, show your proof or give an account of makes a good match.

Isn't the main event tonight everything wrong with wrestling? Death Triangle vs EVPs in a video game style disposable spot fest. It's horrid. It's why wrestling can't draw a real audience.

I like MJF for his Uber heel shtick. Take that away and he's probably nothing to me. He's probably my 2nd favorite in AEW right now, but in no way is he better in the ring than Danielson. Thats just silly talk. He is better than Mox though, IMO. I also loved the main event. Spotfests can be fun. I dont think we needed 7 matches, but several of them were highly entertaining..

Are we seriously questioning Danielsons ring work?

He’s elite. Always has been. He will work with anyone and the match will be good. Pace is always perfect. It’s always worked clean and botch free. Nobody gets accidentally spiked. No matter the style he makes it work. You need him to brawl a bigger guy? Done. You need a grappling masterpiece? Done.

Im just going to assume he Carries mjf in the iron man match for at least half of it.

It's a bit weird he is blaming AEW for this when it's not really their fault he got fed bad info, and also he seems to ignore he is a big reason people were expecting her to show up.

Has has some of the thinnest skin of anyone on wrestling twitter too
Yeah. I don’t hate the guy, but he comes across and a total p***y a good chunk of the time.

Like some interviews he seems like a solid dude, and as soon as he’s on twitter he just turned into a total dork.

He is, he do stupid non sensible spots, his matches make sense and tell a story, he doesn't rush anything, he plays to the crowd, he makes an effort to made the match look like it's an actual back and forth competition, everything he does in ring, on the mic and in story doesn't break kayfabe it promotes it.

I'm don't mean to pick on Daniel here because he's great too, I think he suffers a bit from injury limitations and he really still does his five moves of doom bs that the WWE drilled into him. That gimmick run up the turnbuckles backflip, the 'signature' and I actually like his few submissions but where he absolutely loses me is that, he puts over guys like Garcia and it just puts an emphasis that everything he does is disposable and it's just a show.

Now, I'm going to anticipate the, 'obviously it's all fake' and duh, I know, all wrestling is a lie and we judge pro wrestling and by how believably the lie is told. Everything MJF does tells that lie better including his in ring performance. He even throws in those little wrinkles like a power bomb into a knee breaker.

NJPW sillyness has it's place sprinkled into the show but AEW is over run making wrestling look stupid the whole show. Orange Cassidy is ok as a novelty but they have a belt on him. The EVPs North American run has made wrestling something too embarrassing you can tell people you watch.

Thank you though for an actual response though.

The basics of wrestling is having your the audience invested in the product so that they want to spend more money on it. It doesn’t matter how you get there as long as you do (and people don’t get themselves killed which happened a lot more soon after that than it does now). Many different wrestlers do many different things, but when Bret Hart got to the top, he had people telling him what he did was actually not good by people who got pushed out of the business because they couldn’t make money, while the promotion Bret Hart worked for bought them all out for peanuts.
But AEW doesn't draw any casuals, it actively repels them.

The best thing this company had was Punk's run and they cancelled him to spare the feelings of wrestlers that can't build a new audience.

But I don't understand wrestling, ok. Sure.

You don’t understand wrestling in 2023. What worked in 1997 does not work in 2023. Just like what worked in 1976 did not work in 1997.

No wrestling company draws casuals. Wrestling isn’t en vogue in this generation. Or the last one.

Punk got injured. If all that stuff never happened, he still wouldn’t be around.

Last nights show was very good, like really good, the fans helped a lot as well they were great, made it very exciting. Everything was great start to finish, the only thing I found myself saying after the show was all they were missing was having a new hire come out at the end of the show to blow the roof off, because it was that great of a show.

Rolling my eyes.

I'm not stuck in the past, AEW has had two superstars, MJF and Punk the rest are what has become really stale and disposable wrestling. NJPW had it's time to shine when WWE was God awful and the only show in town. It was a fun an fresh alternative, now it's boring, it's time has come and gone. MJF's big work shoot addressed it, one of the reasons it was brilliant, he was shitting on it's time for wrestling to evolve.

"You guys thought I sucked in the ring and why because I'm not untrained, I don't drop people on their head, because I don't pretend to watch New Japan, because I'm not chasing star ratings'

It's time for wrestling to take the next step and with Punks run, Punk elevated everyone and the brand, Eddie Kingston finally had someone to work with to showcase himself, Mox finally had someone to go back and forth with on the mic, Adam Page actually did something interesting.

It's not about being a mark for MJF and Punk it about seeing good pro wrestling again, where promos, shoots, story and matches all worked together. Then add Ethan Page with Scorpio and Dan Lambert, that was in this vein and made the midcard great.

Then you can even create a tension between this emerging against the silly spotters like the EVPs, Death Trio ect... and you can have an actually competition of which style is better, how they clash and how those style synthesize. That's compelling wrestling a reason to watch.

But instead AEW devolved into the lame ol'shit and we get what, a reboot of the Undisputed Era greatest tag team matches? A trios belt for video game style bs? Pretending Mox is a legit face of a company? The show is beyond stale.

I'm not stuck in 2016 like the reddit-hive.

Punk is not here right now. He’s injured. Mox was a face of the company because Punk has been gone.

People complain about star ratings, but the truth is that’s what got a lot of people noticed. And that trickled down once people found out that people were having great matches that nobody was seeing on TV. It then took NXT to another level where they could run Barclays Center.

If you don’t like AEW, I could talk it up until I’m blue in the face (I wouldn’t because it’s not perfect either), then you don’t like it. The only thing I could tell you to do is keep watching it if you want. If you like a different era of wrestling, then you do. But to act like it isn’t wrestling because of how they wrestle is being stuck in the past. This is what it is, you either like it or not, they’re all still making money and livings off it being wrestling.

All of the things he is saying about "they don't know how to work" were said about HBK, Flair, Steamboat ect. This happens EVERY generation and it's stupid.

I was speaking more to what MJF and Punk like talent, approach, mindset bring to the product and how segments and matches should be booked. That's the reason I pointed out Ethan Page/Scorpio and Lambert.

For the star ratings, it had it's day, now it's the soul crushing status quo, it's had it's day from 2015-2020, now it's like watching dead tropes play out, HHH running WWE highlights this, it's just like NXT factions and is really as bad as anything Vince booked because it's just more stale NXT stuff.

AEW was firing on all cylinders up, it arrived as something great, then Khan killed it after the press conference. That press conference should have been made into a number of compelling angles but instead, they played it safe and AEW has regressed.

As far as watching something I don't like, haven't we all been watching wrestling we don't like for years? Isn't that kinda the thing, we want it to be great but is actively refuses to evolve?

I'm not the one stuck in 2016. Stop putting that narrative on me that 'I just want the Attitude Era back' or something of that ilk. Yes AEW, NXT and WWE is wrestling, really mediocre and lazy wrestling that is resting on it's laurels.

I'm the one pointing how how MJF is actual great in ring and being told I don't understand wrestling when I understand what the chorus thinks, it's a pretty garden variety online opinion I'm criticizing, no one in this thread understands the point I'm making. Grasp it first then criticize me.

Probably because you’re not making a very good point because people don’t think he’s not good in the ring, you were directly comparing him to Danielson and talking about spots being lazy.
